Then I ran into ENT, and just unloaded F bombs on everyone who had been pissing me off for the past 3 months.

Oh, man, there was a big-ass issue about that the size of the Polarslam/Face thing last year! : One poster in particular felt targeted because he'd had a whole slew of barely-clothed Jolene Blalock avatars since he'd joined up a year earlier and that Cubbie mod I mentioned earlier accused him of being a shit-stirrer because someone warned him for it. Never mind he was one of maybe five people who contributed more to the Enterprise forum than "Ooooh, (whatever ship) iz t3h hawt!111!!!!!!!eleventy."

And then, "Day of the Dove" avatars were deemed trolling, because the folks in that forum used them as a symbol to ignore the one troll that the moderators would never do anything about! I put a random DotD avatar up and got unnoticed for three days until that troll narced me out, then

Of course, KA defended CreepyRapeDual, so, y'know....not the best judge of character.

Oh....the Epic Battle of Sideboobage. There were a couple of HUGE-ass threads about that. There was more drama the came from that than from a Spanish soap opera during sweeps week.

One poster, we shall call him The Swede, quite enjoyed the physical form of one Jolene Blalock. The Swede often had avatars of a scantily-clad Jolene. Had them for YEARS. Always within the stated rules at the time (nothing you couldn’t see on network TV, no naughties, asscrack, or girl-nipple, nothing worse than what you saw on ENT). The Swede was a very active poster, and one that actually contributed something to the board, a good debater, ran a weekly review thread, a swell guy, a-okay, a great bloke, never got VERY nasty with anyone, hell I’m not sure he was ever even warned.

Some other poster started a “Is this av okay?” thread about…some stupid av, I don’t know what the hell was in it. People got to talking about other infamous avs (like the Charlie Chaplin one with him dressed like Hitler, who’s wearer was told to take it down because people might think it was actually Hitler).The Swede posted in there with his animated av, in which Jolene showed some side-cleavage. Which she did on ENT like every other episode. We all knew the topography of her boobies well. Well someone, we shall call her….T’Bonz, told him it was over the line, even though it was within the guidelines, and even though earlier (possibly even in thread) she had no problem with nearly-nude avs of men, even one showing Nathan Fillion’s bare ass. She could not provide any real answers as to why The Swede’s av wasn’t okay, other than she didn’t like it. She wanted to be proud of her board, and be able to show it to people without being embarrassed (there was a lot to be embarrassed about on TBBS, but the boobies were the least of it).

Well, needless to say, people felt the need to point out the double standard, and the arbitrary nature of her decision. Things like “Why are naked men okay, but not naked ladies?” “Why has The Swede had these avs for years, and no one has said anything about it until you make an off-the-fly remark about it?” “The Swede’s av shows no more skin than we actually saw in an episode of ENT, so why, in a forum dedicated to that show, that show that aired on a “network” at 8 pm. How risqué can it be? And how is it we can post screencaps of the episode where she took her top off and flashed Connor Trinneer, but we can’t post non-episode pictures of her showing the same amount of skin? What’s the fundamental difference?”

Her answer was of course, to ban certain screencaps. Of Trek episodes. On a Trek board. And all scantily-clad avatars. And all pictures of people in tight underwear (because you could see the outline of their genitalia, OMG!!111!1NOEZ!!1!).

People (ie, ME) pointed out that the ads on her board that she had to keep so squeaky clean (because of the children!!!) had avs with naked ladies in them. Ladies eating their own underwear. We all know TBBS isn’t responsible for those ads, but doesn’t it mean the ship has kind of sailed on keeping it a PG environment? Isn’t it a little silly to get all worked up over cleavage? T’Bonz never did provide a good enough answer to that little philosophical conundrum. TPTB over there basically spent two weeks bending over backwards, rewriting history, pissing everyone off, and performing grand feats of semantic gymnastics to try and justify something that was unjustifiable.

And of course she, and several toadies, got all in a tizzy, calling The Swede and anyone who sided with him “Trouble-makers” “Perverts” “Shit-stirrers” and other very nasty and uncalled for things, and made some paranoid ramblings about how we will all want to post porn next, we won’t rest until we get to post porn (of course, we didn’t need to, her sites own ads already had porn in them.) And when I made an av in support of my friend The Swede, she pm’d me, demanding that I take it down, or she’ll revoke my avatar-having privileges, that I shouldn’t be challenging her authority and spreading anarchy around the board, like I was the “V for Vendetta”-guy or something.

This makes me very sad I was not there during your days at TBBS. Just to see the seething....

Personally, I thought the whole BOARD made way too much of a deal about that. Not that his persona wasn't annoying or creepy, but I didn't seem much point beating a dead horse after it stopped
