    Outside of NASA, I'm not convinced the Feds have the will to throw more money at space exploration.

    Here's more details on the collapse and plans for the future.

    Nothing will happen near term.

    The 8 million is for cleanup and study for building a new instrument.

    It's a bit long but an interesting article.

    There are protocols for funding astronomy. I think the 8-9 million will be wasted.

    It was old. Had known construction defects. Poorly maintained. Additional heavy antennas were added to the suspended receiver. An accident waiting to happen.
