A Possible Idea for Attracting New Members

I was reading about a topic here when I came upon this in my research:

What struck me was instead of a comments area there is a button "Continue the Discussion" at bbs.boingboing.net...the button of course being a link to the BBS.

Maybe we could do something like this...set up a Blog where someone pontificates on a current event or something of interest and instead of a standard comment section we link them to a thread here.

Perhaps we could have a couple dedicated Bloggers like we had reporters back in the day or perhaps staff members could run it. Good threads that start here could be made into blog posts, too. All the forums have potential for source material.

We already have a twitter for tweeting blog posts, we could make a WF facebook page if we wanted...I think it could have potential..using the common and popular social media to drag them in and when they want to have their say link them to us to do it.

Thoughts?

The reporter thing itself was always a good idea too IMO.

I like this a lot. So we would need to get some sort of portal front page for the posts. As far as content, I'd actually favor allowing any registered member to make blog entries, rather than selecting a specific group.

I would, too....except we would end up with some nasty stuff. We couldn't even have a community calendar without it being a nest of trolling and flaming.

Perhaps, but generally people behave where they are supposed to behave.

You can try it...if it becomes a problem you can always change it.
