Private companies can do it better.

I saw a Jerry Lewis movie about this. The military wouldn't let him join, so he started his own Army.

Well, private companies do provide all the equipment and recruits are attracted via the marketplace rather than conscripted...

Well that's not abolishing the military at all.

And then the general public pay for it, whether they like it or not.

Yes, but private military contractors tend to follow the will of dead presidents rather than any current elected one. ;)

We could abolish the military if we do like Israel and require all able-bodied citizens to have an automatic weapon and be skilled in its use.

And of course I must have my own F-15.

    I thought those existed anyway.
    Don't they call them mercenaries?

In that case, I'm still waiting on my personal M240 and my platoon of tanks to command. :diacanu:

The preferred term is "Private Military Company", and ever since Bush the Elder's term, we've been swimming up to our necks in them.

And they're not doing just mundane shit either, some of it's handling classified material or running recon missions into "allied" nations. So, we've either seen capitalism run amok, or (this is my theory) we're seeing the CIA front a bunch of dummy corporations.

I'm hoping the latter. Desperately, desperately hoping we haven't become so incompetent and foolhardy.
