Just starting to break. It's at a concert. Wild reports coming in that multiple citizens and cops are down. It's been reported on Reddit from people listening to the radio chat that at least 20 are dead and there are two suspects. Maybe more. SWAT was sweeping for booby traps and at least one suspect was trapped in a hallway where police where waiting for more SWAT to arrive to deal with him. It's also being reported from people on Reddit who are listening to police scanners that the suspects are using automatic weapons. Videos coming in with sounds like rapid fire taking place and people ducking.
The video sounded like automatic fire. Also I have always liked the Mandalay Bay (even if it is at the far end of the strip) due to staying there with my then girlfriend after we both turned 21. They have giant Jacuzzi tubs in each suite big enough for two so they are great for private hot tub sex. It doesn't sound like things are going well according to the clip I watch. The shooting went on and on for many minutes.
Fox is reporting multiple people at hospital with gunshot wounds. No report yet on whether the suspects are down or in custody. Edit: Correction. One suspect dead. Still not sure if there was more than one or if that was confusion.
People listening to scanners say that SWAT teams went to two hotels. In one hotel they breached a door and took the suspect out. If there are two suspects then they were firing down into the concert. We know of one for sure.
Long bursts of (apparently) full-auto fire. Clearly not someone engaged in a fight, but dumping a magazine in one long burst. If that was into the crowd, this could be very, very bad.

Update 12:23 AM MDT - Medics reported being fired at when attending to casualties at the Tropicana Hotel. Update 12:25 AM MDT - One suspect down on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel. Update 12:29 AM MDT - Reports of gunshots at both Caesar's Palace and the Bellagio Hotel. Suspect that is down at the Mandalay Bay had multiple firearms. Reports of man with firearm reported at the Paris, but not confirmed. 12:33 AM MDT - Bellagio has stated no gunman at current time, and are initiating lockdown procedures."
If there were multiple shooters than they were shooting down into the concert area. Could be far more then 20 dead.
Wow that sounds like it was really bad. Yet another mass shooting incident. I hope casualties are low.
Someone on Reddit is reporting their friend said they think there is at least a dozen shooters and that Las Vegas has called in for more help from outside the city. (police and ambulances) If any of this is accurate than this is not a mass shooting but an outright terrorist attack. Yes there is a difference.
Coordination of multiple shooters = definite terrorist attack (but still not clear if more than one shooter) Police have closed the south end of the Strip, news report showed hundreds of people displaced by the events standing on the street. I'm guessing they wouldn't all be standing there if the attack was ongoing. I only heard one weapon (at least, one at a time) on the videos I've watched. My guess is one shooter, and that one shooter is now toast.
If the shooter was in an elevated position with line of sight with the concert this is going to be real bad. From the sound he is just peppering shots. If that is fire into a crowd it is horrific. I will wait for a while before I believe anything about motive. Too much speculation and rumor bullshit going on now. It just sounds really bad.
McCarran Airport--right next to the Mandalay Bay hotel--is open again. I drove down the Las Vegas Strip just the other night.
From CNN: Las Vegas Metro Police Sheriff Joseph Lombardo says police officers engaged a suspect on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel; is now dead. "Right now we believe it's a sole actor, a lone wolf type actor," said Lombardo. His name is not currently being released but he is believed to be a local resident. Police are interested in talking to a companion of the suspect, an Asian female whose name is Marilou Danley. She has not yet been located. Lombardo also called for the public's help in searching for two vehicles registered to the suspect: a Hyandai Tucson with a Nevada license plate, 114B40, and a Chrysler Pacifica Touring, also with a Nevada license plate, 19D401.
a lot of people don't, but if it's a choice between changing the channel and doing your Lee Harvey Oswald on steroids routine, I'd just change the channel. BTW this incident will be the inspiration for a great country song!
