Over the past week I've had Chrome frequently not load pages, and I figured out that running its AdBlock Plus extension is the problem. I've used this extension on Chrome for years without a problem. Suggestions?
I use uBlock Origin. The footprint is much lighter, and it doesn't allow any ads, including "sponsored" ones. If that one doesn't appeal to you, I've also used Adguard, and it works pretty well, too. It's a rising star in the ad blocking community.
yeah that started for me too. It was while viewing Washington Post. Workaround is to whitelist the site it freezes on (but not while you're on that site). I posted on adblock's forum and they suggested I try uBlock Origin (UBO)! It works better than adblock. Faster I think and no freezes. Not any annoying "whitelist our site" pop-ups either. I think adblock is at its end-of-life. The adblock guru did mention not to run more than 1 adblocker extension on another thread there.
Ah yes! Which reminds me, in addition to uBlock, there is an extension called uBlock Extra, which (usually) prevents websites from figuring out you have an adblocker.
YouTube is cracking down on ad blockers like uBlock Origin. It still lets me proceed after clicking through a popup warning, but I expect it won't work at all soon. Suggestions?
Also, this must be an American thing (at the moment) because I'm not getting the popup warnings and I use both uBlock Origin as well as commercial anti-spam/anti-ad software embedded with my anti-virus and VPN software.
Make sure you keep your uBlock filters up to date. They're keeping ahead of Youtube's bullshit, but sometimes you have to update the filters manually.
Yeah, I just purged the cache and updated manually, per some Indian guy's instructions (ironically) on YouTube. That did the trick. Cheers.
