Out of disk space. People been uploading a lot of attachments. We’re on borrowed time as it is, there were no broken backups or anything to delete. I had to delete less than 1 GB of logs. We need more disk space.
Yeah, I probably contributed my share. It's just, a lot of sites block linking these days*, so having a thing here just makes it easier for people to see. I'll try to find alternate linking sources whenever feasible. *I'm looking at you, IMP Awards! You're not the copyright holder, and you don't pay the studios, so who the fuck are you to block?
For external image hosts, I highly recommend: https://imgbb.com/ https://postimages.org/ Their free plans are generous, and they allow full image links without having to refer back to the website. I've been using postimages for years.
I could live without the meme and "post shit from other websites" threads, and deleting attachments. If we want people to see something so badly we can post a link, and they if they want to see it so badly they can click it. We can also delete Daytons diary thread, and Tererun.
Holy shit yes. I mean, I put that idiot on ignore years ago, which independent studies have shown can improve your Wordforge experience by as much as 93%. But I have to think that banning her and deleting her verbal diarrhea posts would save at least 135 GB of space.
But who will give us color commentary on UA and Jenee's gross cartoon sex life? Future generations must know!
Is there a reason more disk space cannot be acquired? I have a feeling it's something along the lines of "the host charges a stupidlly excessive amount for more than we have," or "the only person capable of increasing our disk space isn't answering emails."
It seems you’re the only one amused by that shit. 3 1/2 years ago when I came back, I mentioned in a post that I’d lost the photobucket account or the password or something and was told I could now attach the memes directly here. Should we not be allowing that? Also, I know everyone loves a bit of nostalgia, but why are we keeping threads from 20 years ago? We all, as human beings, grow and change over the years, anyone who hasn’t, isn’t living. Referencing old comments into new (old) arguments is moronic in the least. I confess, I do it too, but … really we shouldn’t be expecting people to hold exactly the same opinions. Essentials, yes; but random statements, no. We could get rid of threads more than 5 years old. If every poster here is a individual human, then we all have our memories for that.
Can you not convert them all to base64 strings and make use of modern browsers support for data:image in image tags?
Not even MS would try "All your base 64 are belong to us"... You want nerd jokes? It's quite a nifty thing, you can do it using CSS too. I've used it a few times, although these days I avoid working on front-end development like the plague, as modern front-end seems to mean making a billion HTTP calls to download petabytes of JavaScript, web fonts and 60 different stylesheets.
It's not a compression algorithm - or at least it isn't intended to be - it's an encoder. It was developed to rewrite non-text data as a string that can be used by software that's more set up to use text - i.e. email, texting. It may result in compression of images, but they can end up larger... I just encoded a 128kb PNG file and the resulting base64 string was ~160kb.
I would like to claim my TLDR power is at fault, but it is probably more my giant feet and neuropathy. Stop leaving the cord near my feet.
