No one is cancelling any of them, but old schtick is old. one of the reasons blackface died is no one found it funny anymore except a few racists. George Carlin was beloved and funny as hell right up until he died. He knew how to adjust his views while still staying true to what he believed. The old "people just don't understand comedy anymore" or "people are too sensitive these days" excuses don't really work because we've seen lots of comedians grow and understand their audience better. What good is comedy if it's based on old tropes no one connects with? Yeah, that works for shallow people who only glance at the surface level of everything, but the best comedians: Robin Williams, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Joan Rivers, Bill Hicks, and so on, and so on, they understood people.

See, Chapelle once knew this, but he's become more a shadow of his former self, a parody of what he used to parody, and it's a sad thing to see. What's worse are the people defending it because they've tied their own identities up in the idea that what is most offensive is what's most funny, but it's where that offense is directed is what makes universal comedy. Push it upward at the people who fuck us over and make our lives miserable? People get that. Direct it downward toward the underdog, and you're just a fucking hack. The people who laugh at the hacks are the ones who also laugh at the underdogs. You've tied your identity to these people, and so when someone calls said comedians a hack, you take it personally, and you're just as fragile as the snowflakes you, general you before you plotz, claim to detest.
