TBH, there's probably no issue that the Biden team has been worse on than immigration. A couple more days in cages would not have changed things when the corruption and racist views on these children is abhorrent. Biden has always been racist against brown people. He does not respect these children's lives like he would white american christian children. He does not want to pollute our schools and communities with them so of course he puts them into the hands of corporations who need trapped underpaid workers which we should call slaves because where can they go? This is Biden endorsed slavery for corporations, and he has always been for it. He has used tough on crime legislation to make a imprisoned workforce for the corporations of the country in privatized jails. He has encouraged the criminalization of victimless crimes like drug sales and possessions because it greatly effects black communities causing them to basically pass from school to prison because of some pot or other narcotics people wanted to use. We are told the dealer forces people to use drugs because he is a black thug, and that is Biden's propaganda that he helped to establish and spread. Biden wants to shame all women who have abortions and control their healthcare because the bible states they are lesser to men's intellect and need the rule of men. This is the book he has always followed. Of course, who is the favorite of the christian god? white men. Who is whiter than bleached cotton? I admittedly don't have the low view of Biden that you do but this admin is really an amazing contrast - when they decide to step up and do something REALLY progressive, they experience wild success. When they decide to do some cautious old-school thing (like undermining a great energy policy with new drilling leases, or being terrified to revolutionize immigration - at least rhetorically - or not being onboard with expanding SCOTUS) he pleases literally NO ONE among the cohort of people who might consider voting for him. Sometimes it's bad advice (Klain was really good and his replacement is really not) and sometimes it's just his "back in my day" instincts, but the upshot is that you have a remarkable body of work that any left of center person should be proud of....but that body also has 3 or 4 significant tumors that could easily kill the whole organism. What makes it so disappointing is that it doesn't HAVE to be like this. My kingdom for a Dem president who will say the sort of things Warren says about (for example) big banks and corporate greed and such like. Stop trying to "get along with" people who will (a) never vote for you no matter what you do, and (b) only work together with you in the most narrow sense they think they can slide by the notice of the reactionary base. When he and his administration are ballsy, good things happen. They should be ballsy about everything.
Biden still has put forward the most progressive agenda of any president since FDR. That's not nothing. And while I think you are right as the share of Gen Z and Millennial voters increase they want even more progressive voters these folks aren't going to vote for Trump or DeSantis. Biden did better with white non-college voters than Clinton by 5 points, he tied Trump with men doing 11% better than Clinton, and he really won the battle in the suburbs, doing nearly 10 points better than Clinton. Some people were looking for a moderate that didn't come with the ridiculous identity politics and personal rancor that Trump came with. If the young people refuse to vote for the Dem candidate after seeing what happened in 2016 and the impact that had on the Supreme Court then they fucking deserve what they get. If they have enough power in the primaries to replace Biden then fine. But the single largest block in the Democratic party, the black vote, remains a staggering +80-85 points in favor of the Dems, and is quite a bit less progressive on economic issues and religion than the white voters in the party. About the only cohort that you'd truly call progressive among the black vote en toto is Gen Z. The rest are center left. They were absolutely the ones that got Biden the primary win in 2016.
Amaris has been shrieking about "kids still in cages" under Biden for a couple years now, and people have been responding with warnings about exactly this sort of thing happening if there isn't proper vetting of who those kids are released to, and in response Amaris has continued to shriek about how "kids are still in cages" under Biden. Example: Last time I checked Amaris wants there to be even fewer safeguards, she'd prefer if the kids weren't detained at all, which would mean that human traffickers could transport minors into the country whenever they like, or scoop up unaccompanied minors right after they walk across the border.
I'm still not seeing the keep them in cages/give them hard labour dichotomy. Surely if they are to be "kept", it can be in civilised conditions. Or processes can be developed to avoid exploitation - they've had plenty of time by now to develop those.

Living in a swing state, I don't have the luxury of writing in "Deez Nuts" for the Presidential candidate any more and knowing the blue candidate will win either way. Like Nova said, I don't think Gen Z is quiet as wooly-brained as some believe them to be. I mean, many of them are still IN high school and watching their education turn into a dystopian nightmare right in front of their eyes. And that's without taking into account the ones who have survived school shootings. But they're right to expect SOMETHING for saving Biden's ass and are tired of just having to tread water to maybe not fall completely into fascism *this* year.
