A man paralyzed in a bicycle accident 12 years ago is able to walk (after a fashion) thanks to a "digital bridge" that connects his brain to his muscles. There's still a long way to go, but the proof of concept is there.
Waaaay back in high school, I read this book by a doctor who was researching what's known as the "Current of Injury." Basically, any time you have a cut or break, there's a small electromagnetic injury that forms around the wound. He started experimenting with that, and some other things involving electromagnetic fields and the human body. Some of his stuff was bugfuck, but some of it there was hard science behind. I can remember about 5 or so years after reading the book I saw a news story about Duke University using the same methods he described to reverse paralysis in dachshunds. That would have been the early 90s at the latest. Why it's never seemed to be adopted by the medical community, I don't know. I do know that when I had a college professor who had degrees in medical engineering, I gave him a copy of the book.
