https://www.nationalreview.com/corn...tez-is-right-about-amazons-corporate-welfare/ Now there's something you don't see in NRO every day.
What, living at home with mommy and daddy rent free while being paid by shady billionaires to post shitty memes all day? Yeah, he's a regular Henry Ford.
About that.... https://www.creators.com/read/ben-shapiro/09/11/theres-no-such-thing-as-quotcrony-capitalismquot
Lol, Tucker Carlson just said he finds it hard to disagree with Ocasio-Cortez on the issue of the richest man in the US getting taxpayer subsidies, WHEN THAT'S THE ENTIRE FUCKING GOP GAME PLAN.
I am not really sure what advantage NY would have in getting corporate HQ of large businesses today. They are not a leader in infrastructure. They have a decent employee base, but they require the biggest salaries of the US. Land is extremely expensive. NY taxes are insane and the city has it's own taxes. Any corporation can find better and cheaper cities to place their HQ, so to compete NYC has to give a place like Amazon a discount or they will simply just go elsewhere. The reality is NY needs these sorts of jobs because the middle class is finding better jobs in areas where they can keep more of their income, get less commute, and have better lives. NYC I the days before work from home and high speed communications was important for a corporation because you needed a whole bunch of different businesses close to each other to satisfy a corporate HQ, but now why pay the cost for what is really a city of lesser and rigged technology. The dolt from the original article is probably a twitter supporter. To complain about NYC trying to get Amazon to bring their success to the city by offering them up some cost saving incentives to make NY better for them than some other city, and to be a trump supporter is another hypocritical and ignorant POV. Trump is one of the biggest corporate welfare theirs in NYC history. He made shady deals paid for by NY and US taxpayer money through his fuckbuddy Giuliani, skimmed off the top, and then went bankrupt so he would not have to pay taxes or pay the money back. That was not even good enough for him because he laundered mob money while he was doing it. This is why actual conservatives hated him in the 90s, and still should. At least Amazon is likely to be around for a while and employ people. Trump stole a nd lost so much money in corporate welfare he should be in prison for it. Without some major tax breaks Amazon and their employees would be far better off in many other growing urban cities around the US. Those cities don't need to give Amazon savings because their tax rates, land, and employee costs are so much lower than NYC and you get so much more. As for crystal city I would assume the taxes are up there, but it is on that VA line in a nice section of suburban DC. It is directly on rail, water, and I am assuming Ronald Reagan airport will handle their business. Not to mention they have a chunk of really decent high end and medium level hotel in the area for visitors. About the only annoying part of crystal city is everything has crystal city attached to it. It gets to be a little confusing, and it is easy to drive onto the tarmac at RR by accident.
This is a bit more than GOP vs dem. NYC has been losing a lot of business over the years because things are changing. If NYC does not do this the jobs go elsewhere. The east coast tecvh areas have spread into the low cost southern states and you can get a lot more at much lower costs in the Carolinas and GA.
Bullshit. Without those massive tax breaks, Amazon wouldn’t have chosen to make its second and third largest employment centers in.... *checks notes* ... the same places that are currently its second and third largest employment centers.
The only way out of this cycle is if targeted tax breaks can somehow be outlawed nationally, but it seems like any legislation to that effect would be unlikely to survive a 10th Amendment challenge.
Whaddya mean? We've got a SCOTUS which is heavily stacked towards justices who are absolutely in favor of the rights of individuals over synthetic creations like corporations. Granted, they think that corporations are people too, except when it comes to expecting corporations to be punished for their actions like individuals would if they did the same things. Oh.
Amazon is already well dug-in there. This is a straight-up giveaway. Attention corporate Democrats: shit like this gets people like Bernie and Trump elected instead. You should work on that.
Conservatives are happy to criticize Amazon because it's a West Coast liberal tech company. Culture war tribalism always comes first.
Plus Trump - and by extension his base - believe Bezos uses the Washington Post as his own personal hammer. That the Post also regularly breaks stories on Trump's shenanigans may not be entirely unconnected.
