You aren't ruled by the opinions of 50% + 1 of your peers either. I don't think any of us advocate that sort of government, particularly where personal morality and even thought is concerned, as Christianity would have it with the Almighty. That sort of thing is an even more hellish version of Nineteen Eighty Four and it definitely is slavery. It's not for me.
no clue. I'm merely discussing abstract concepts here. I leave it for you to work out whatever you do or don't believe in just as i have (and continue to)
Point of order: Biblical Christianity, as described though not always as flawed human practice it, is all about GRACE. "Every thought" is not, in fact, dictated because the being presumed to be in charge has said (assuming for the purpose of the discussion of course) that he KNOWS you are not going to get it perfect and he's made arrangements to compensate for that. Whether all that is true or not, the point remains that just because some humans mangle it into legalism and perfectionism is not an indication that that is the original premise.
You make my point for me. "Grace" is, as far as I can tell amidst the myriad of different views, all about aligning your way of thinking with and surrendering to God. It's exactly what I am talking about, a deeper form of obedience than simple rote practical subservience.
If your metric for attempting to advance European Socialism is a large debt and deficit, then in pure percentages Ronald Reagan was the biggest socialist in American history, in 8 years he increased the debt from $934.073 billion to $2.697957 trillion, an increase of 288.8%. If Obama were to do the same, the national debt would have to be $30.693 trillion by the end of his second term.
Grace is all about God giving us much better than we deserve. That's really all there is to it; no mystery involved. One element of that grace is that those who don't trust him and don't want his help, wisdom or leadership, are free to refuse it. (And don't go into that "Yes, but they burn in hell for it" stuff; we have gone over that many times and you know that I do not see it that way, so trying to use it to show a problem in my argument is a logical error because it is not part of my argument.) Grace is about an omniscient God who is willing to give you the guidance and help you don't deserve, without you having to earn it, but who is also willing to let you go your own way without him if you don't want his help. What more could you ask for, really? Just try to explain to me why I should refuse that deal.
You haven't outlined any "deal". You've made it sound as if there are no conditions. And that's aside from the threat of hell, which despite your retcon, is very explicit in your book.
I hate to break it to you Sparky, but it doesn't matter whether you see it that way or not, your religion DOES see it that way. The basic tenant of Christianity is to accept Jesus as the savior or burn in hell. There is no gray area. Oh yeah, God is just waiting in the wings all ready to help us out in a moment's notice. He's wearing his Super Hero tights and cape and ready to fly down to earth to solve our problems! Maybe he can swing by the North Pole on his way down and bring me my gifts from Santa early, too.
Conning suckers and the gulible out of their hard earned dollarinos, tsk, tsk, sounds like someone's been naughty and not nice. Just saying, shouldn't hold your breath waiting on a visit from the Claus.
Oh do fuck off you shitslurping asswrangler. It was old and untrue the first dozen times you said it.
^Ever see that South Park episode where they tell John Edwards what a piece of shit he is for preying on the suckers who believe in talking to the dead? Know who that reminds me of ? Thief.
I know I've said this before, but I shouldn't be surprised that an ignorant pig fucker like you would forget. But just to clarify one last time, I have never, ever taken a single penny from anyone....ever. Now kindly kill yourself.
