Does anybody see any patterns here? Grey: No anti-miscegenation laws passed Green: Repealed before 1887 Yellow: Repealed 1948 to 1967 Red: Repealed 12 June 1967
Frankly, given Oregon's history, I'm surprised it's yellow, not red. Other than that, so the fuck what in this case, as each state that had the laws on the book have repealed them. Oh, and if this is a 'the South sucks' troll, Delaware kind throws the troll off in this case...
The red states didn't repeal their laws voluntarily. The Supreme Court (in other words, the fedgov) forced it upon them. And who cares about Delaware?
Devoid of context (and in this case even a color key), the OP is utterly useless. Much like most of the rest of your threads.
Many people would like to see laws banning gay marriage left to the will of the people. Had that argument held sway on the miscegnation law issue, interracial marriage would not have been accepted by the majority until 1991 or perhaps much later, because racism permitted by the courts would not have become as socially unacceptable as it is now.
It was a suggestion, not a policy. The name changes are all posted in the Help Desk for your convenience.
Btw, the map is misleading in that it claims New Mexico repealed its anti-misceganation laws before 1887, as New Mexico didn't achieve statehood until 1912. It should be noted that Arizona split off from the New Mexico Territory in 1863, so while it is feasible that the laws were repealed between Arizona becoming its own territory and New Mexico's Statehood, in reality, as this is a map of the states, New Mexico should probably be grey. Same situation with Washington, which didn't become a state till 1889, after the 1887 qualifier.
