I found this on one of MSNBC's links today... Take the quiz My accent is (surprise) The West or, as the results put it: "
"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio." Must be the California in me cancelling out the Southern.
The Inland north You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

The West... but.... Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta. so ya, I guess thats right, it got the nearest city right at least lol
What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Midland "You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." I have a midland accent probably as a result of spending 6 years in Indiana. I have found that when I'm amongst other Texans, my old Texas accent comes out a bit.
You definitely have a Boston accent, even if you think you don't. Of course, that doesn't mean you are from the Boston area, you may also be from New Hampshire or Maine. lol. So true.
Your Result: The Inland North You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop." DAMN RIGHT IT'S POP!
"Inland North". An eerily good quiz. I've worked hard to lose the accent, but it resurfaces occasionally. It was basically neck-and-neck with "Midland", though.
Midland. My accent varies, though. Sometimes people don't believe that I'm from Texas. Other times (like when I'm talking with Elwood or evenflow) the accent tends to manifest itself.
