This kind of stuff serves no purpose other than to piss people off.

Nick, why do you have to come across so heavy handed all the time? I understand that only Admins are supposed to post in the Announcement section, and assume it was a glitch that allowed others to post there, but in this situation, you might have...

    A. just locked the thread without comment, or

    B. Followed your own advice to Tamar over here. Specifically the part about showing a little more respect and loosing the attitude.

I agree. What was the point of that post Nick? If you didn't want any posting in that thread, you should have just closed it without being snarky about it.

    :jayzus:

Or how about letting it go this once until the news gets around and then making sure it doesn't happen again.

I don't see the big deal...yeah, it would have been nice if it hadn't happened, but since it has...

I made a copy of the thread in The Help Desk and reopened it so people can continue to say what they like to Diacanu.

At least the "no pricks" policy is in full effect.

    Oh wait...

I was not being snarky, I was being brief.

You may have just been being brief, but some people see that level of briefness as being rude, bossy or just not caring what anyone else thinks or feels about things.

I doubt you meant anything by it at all...but some people simply won't see it that way, as they expect and feel they deserve more of a reason than just "Stop posting here." And you could have went further to provide another option...such as putting a copy of the thread where they could continue their posting.

I was going to make a copy, but I was running late for an easter get-together.

Why do people deserve a reason? It was a glitch in the permissions.

If someone suddenly could see the admin forum, and then no longer could, they would be no more justified in deserving a reason then in the announcement forum.

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

So you really don't see that you came across as an asshole with a Napoleon complex?

And you wonder why you should stay the hell out of anything but the Tech stuff. :jayzus:

Unless it is the Red or Gray Room, you are a customer service representative of WF. It shouldn't be a burden or a problem to take a couple of moments to explain what's up.

They deserve a reason because they post here and it is the considerate thing to do when stepping into the middle of a thread to take an action.

I'm not so concerned about the lack of a reason given (although it would have been nice). What gets me is the "Stop posting here" as he locked the thread....the redundancy of which, along with his opinion on what he deems the posters here "deserve", is kind of telling IMHO.

    Ugh.

Okay, last night Elwood complains to me about people being able to post in the announcement forum. So I fix it.

And so at this point, no one but a super moderator or admin should be able to post in there.

So Lanzman posts in there, which kind of irks me, but I'm in a rush, so I just leave a brief message and close the thread so he gets the message.

I come back 4 hours later to two negreps and a complaint thread.

    And now here we are.

It's not what you did, it's how you did it.

We get that you were in a rush, but it appeared as if you were just being a jerk. Your unapologetic attitude here only reinforces that.

We're not trying to judge you for the fuck of it, we're doing it because you're a very public figure and what you do and how you do it reverberates on the board as a whole. We're not trying to call you an asshole, we're just saying that's how it looks.

Does that make any sense to anyone besides me?

Good. I took no offense. Hell, I didn't even realize folks weren't supposed to be able to post in there . . . didn't realize where it was.
