The batter was Hispanic, so hate crime could never be a factor.

Really? I've never heard much about hate crimes, period. We have crime up the ass around here, but I've never heard a "hate crime" mentioned.

I would think it's almost impossible to prove. I'm just saying society as a whole seems to give minorities a pass on ethnic slurs more often. My daughter's been called whitey and cracker many times.

If you go to fbi.gov and find the report on hate crimes there, you'll see that minorities are suspected as the culprits in hate crimes frequently.

That's a rather bad example. Going berserk when you find your wife in bed with another man isn't a "hate crime" it's more like "normal". There is a range of reactions that fall within "normal" as far as walking in on adultery-in-progress goes, which range from non-violent anger, up to impulsive "crime of passion" killing. All pretty common.

On the other hand, some people go rather OTT. Like this guy.
