Yes, it took a while for the show to find its legs, but dammit, its actually proven funnier than "Family Guy". Indeed, it's like what "Family Guy" would've been if there were actual care put in plot construction instead of it being a clothesline to hang random gags. True, it takes swipes more at the American Right, it takes the occasional potshots at the Left too. Whenever I'm down, I break out my AD DVDs (mainly volumes 2 and 3) and laugh myself silly. Are there any other fans in the house? And if so, who's your favorite character? Mine? Definitely, Klaus.
Agree, it's pretty darn funny. It's star is rising, while Family Guy is falling. Okay, Family Guy just made a crater, let's be honest.
It's getting better. Problem is it still follows to closely to the Simpsons template. Dumb dad, irrelevant mom, smart daughter, dumb son and other family member; In the Simpsons it is Maggie, Family Guy has Stewie and American Dad has the alien. That said, AD can be funny, Patrick Stewart is always good, the male characters (unlike FG) don't have dick noses and nut sack chins, and AD isn't so dependent on non sequiturs.
I'm glad I'm not alone here! I think my favorite episode is the one where Stan goes back in time to kill Jane Fonda and unintentionally causes the Russians taking over America, so he remakes "Taxi Driver" (starring John Wayne) to set things right. Also, anyone noticed that they stop doing the "Golden Turd Saga"? Those were kinda weird, but funny.
