I got locked out of my password wallet program, but not because I forgot my password. The company upgraded stuff, but in doing so, made things go screwy if you didn't upgrade both things simultaneously and even then, they suggested a backup file hidden somewhere else on the desktop. Now I did that, and when I did that it asked for a password for that file. I thought I used the same password that I was using for the main file - after all it was just the backup right? but the damned thing is telling me I'm wrong. I'm getting frustrated and cranky. Anybody know a good, cheap password breaker program that will let me get into my file?
Look, the only reason I have it is because I have to have so many damned passwords at work - that change every 60 days. Trust me, I wouldn't have had the program otherwise. Now, are you two lamebrain geniuses gonna help or not?
You're going to have to be a bit more specific. There are many different password wallet programs, utilizing many different forms of encryption.
SplashID or SplashData ID - depends on where you go for the name but that is the program that screwed me. And pf course they aren't taking any blame for the problem. I have never had any program - not even MicroSoft - upgrade and screw up the previous version of the files. Once I get the file opened and (hopefully) get my information, I'm gonna export everything to a different program file and then find a new password wallet program
I'm sorry, but I don't think you're going to be able to break the encryption on that. From what I see, it'll lock you out after a certain number of tries if you were to try and run a dictionary attack on the password, and attempting to decrypt the database itself is not physically possible at the moment. The software uses a form of encryption that has yet to be broken. I suggest for the future using KeePass, and keeping a backup of the database in another place. But you're not likely to get those passwords back anytime soon.
I use paper. and eWallet for backup I just looked it up in iTunes. Wow it's picked up quite a bit of one stars. Definitely a program I'd pass on.
To Zombie: Thing is, it used to be darned good. This last upgrade is atrocious! And the help .... Well, their excuse for no phone support is that "they are a small company. For phone support you need to be a big company like Microsoft" ?!?!?!?!?!?!? Well, if they WERE the IT gang .....
If something stops being good then you drop it and find something else. Let the company know as well.
I have an ancient XP laptop in my closet that I have forgotten the admin password to. I'd like to find a way to access it again, but none of the online tricks I've looked up will work and it's not worth $80 for some one time-use program that also may or may not work.
I need to access this program; so the $80 will be worth it to me IF it works. How good is that program and what is the guarantee?
I wouldn't even bother trying to crack your file Liz, the whole point of a passport wallet like that is that it keeps all your other passwords secure, if it could be easily decrypted it would entirely defy the point of having it.
