The problem with 99.9% of fan films is that the acting just plain sucks.

Or you could blame the twat who genuinely thought he could make money profiting off someone else's copyright.

Fan films are not the issue. Folk cashing in on them is.

Yes. And you really don't appreciate how good even the worst television actors are until you watch amateur productions and struggle with constant cringe.

I've said it before: watch that Star Trek Continues episode with Lou Ferrigno. He--Lou Ferrigno!--is easily the most capable actor in that show. He's not Daniel Day-Lewis, but he's got charisma.

Any year now guys and it'll be here. I gotta admit, I like the look of the bridge. The jelly bean buttons have writing on them, that's cool.

I thought Robert Myer Burnett went homeless, and maggots devoured his flesh, and carried his skeleton away, and children screamed at the horror of a skeleton carried aloft on a squirming pearlescent river of maggots, and John Campea tried to save him, but thought better of it when he saw the maggots, and quit his show to hawk Chinese dog food that turned out to be full of lead, and the flesh of Apple factory workers that killed themselves, because it pays more than Youtube.

Or is that just a very happy dream I had?

Remember when Paramount was only trying to kill Axanar because it was a trillion times better than Discovery, which was terrible garbage that was doomed to fail?

And now thanks to the success of Discovery there are five different Star Trek shows currently airing or in production?

    I remember. :corn:

Alec has so soured me on it. I *want* to like it, and I want to like it for all of the people who have clearly worked very hard to make it into something good. It's just that I believe Alec is a dead albatross, and he's already brought such a fuckton of bad luck to everyone else, all on his own, that even if it's good, I won't actually enjoy it knowing who was behind it. I love a bunch of these people, but Alec's direct involvement makes me want to reject it out of hand.

Even watching that video I posted I kept thinking,”what an asshole”. He single-handedly killed fan films.

Yes. Before Alec did what he did, Paramount/CBS tended to ignore fan films as long as they weren't trying to cash in. Once he got his hands into things, and started merchandising everything, and publicly saying Axanar was real Star Trek while CBS/Paramount was producing "fake" Star Trek, the studio had to step up. I despise copyright law in most ways, as I think it has gone much too far, but this really was a legitimate case of CBS/Paramount having their hand forced, and so we watched as Star Trek fan productions were severely limited as a result. All because of Alec "Karn's Blend coffee" Peters.

I’m glad Continues got to conclude their series though. Some fans have been able to make good films with the new rules though.

Yes, Continues was just a terrific fan production, and made great episodes on a 1/10 the budget Peters demanded for Axanar.
