Went ahead and upgraded to the iPhone 8 and Apple Watch 3. My iPhone 6S suffered the same fate as the 6S' of three of my close friends. The earpiece volume steadily diminished until I simply couldn't hear anyone any more. I had to use bluetooth or the speaker to actually have a phone call. I don't think it was a coincidence that this happened to all four of our phones within about three weeks of each other.
And the $1000 is selling slowly so Apple has cut production. Tge specs just aren't that great and it costs way to much. There is so much competition now even the Apple fan boys can't float their excessive prices any more.
Apple is not slowing down production because it's not selling. Apple is doing what Apple always does. It ramps up production at the end of the year for holiday sales and than in the beginning of the new year it cuts production down to prevent overstock. We see this story every year with Apple because the people in the media have zero memory apparently. It's been estimated that Apple sold at least 29 million iPhone X in the last quarter worldwide. If that's true...... Apple is not hurting.
Apple has something like 3 years operating capital in savings, so even if they didn't sell a single thing, they're not hurting. In looking at the sales figures for various manufacturers, the really high-end phones with price tags close to the iPhone X aren't doing all that well, either. It looks like smartphone makers are hitting the same wall that PC makers hit a while back, in that most people realize they don't need the hugely expensive cutting-edge devices, and so are opting for the lower cost models.
This. A sub-$200 phone will do almost everything an iPhone X will do. If you want swanky and low cost, a Moto G5 Plus can be snagged for under $200: https://www.amazon.com/Moto-Plus-5th-Generation-Lockscreen/dp/B01MR2ZFBI?th=1
Yeah. No it won't do almost everything an iPhone X or any top of the line Samsung will do. Just stop with this nonsense. You want a sub $200 phone? By all means buy it. But stop trying to justify your purchase by comparing it to the top line phones and trying to say it's near equal. If what you said was anything close to true that sub $200 phone would actually cost $800-$1000 or everyone would be blasting Apple/Samsung for gouging.
While there are differences between an inexpensive phone and a flagship phone, they're not as great as they once were. For example, lots of phones have "Face unlock" like the iPhone X does, but theirs is easier to fool than the iPhone's. And some of the lower cost phones have cameras which perform better than the iPhones (either 8 or X) does under certain conditions. This doesn't mean that if you're buying an iPhone, you're getting ripped off, after all, part of the price you pay for the phone covers Apple's customer service (which is some of the best in the business), and you get access to apps which aren't available on Android. It also doesn't mean that by buying a cheaper phone, you're settling for less. Google's finally managed to work out most of the kinks in Android, and it's now a very stable operating system which has features that you can't get on iOS. Personally, I wish people would stop subscribing to the cult of operating systems and recognize that each one has their merits and flaws. For some things Android is a better OS, and for others, iOS is the clear winner. Maybe if people would stop worshipping their particular false god we could get an OS that had the best of both worlds. The best podcast catcher I've ever used is on iOS, but it, along with the other positives of iOS, isn't enough to justify me plunking down the extra cash to get an iPhone.
Oh my good God, you do realize that Apple does gouge the SHIT out of people, don't you? I've worked for several component suppliers, as well as companies like DELL. I know where they get their parts, and how much they pay for them. I know where Apple gets their parts. Seriously? You honestly think an iPhone X offers $800 worth of improvements? Good goddamn, do I have some magic beans to sell you. Steve Jobs must have his corpsified knob all the way down your throat.
It's more than parts. Which by the way are superior to your sub-$200 phone. You don't know squat about the parts for Apple or Samsung. You guys keep harping on Apple but I keep pointing out that the Samsung top of the line phone is far superior to your sub-$200 phone as well. It's also software and how everything meshes together. If your sub-$200 phone was even half as good as any top of the line phone from any company it would be in hot demand. It's always hilarious that you cheap bastards are so desperate to say your phone is as good as the top line phones. Don't be afraid to own your phone. Just say, "I bought a $200 phone. It works for what I want. Fuck you." Just stop trying to say it's as good as a top of the line iPhone or Samsung. It's not. It will never be. I'd have more respect for you if you did that.
*****OFFICIAL MOD NOTE***** You can dial that shit right back now. This ain't the Red Room. I'm not going to get into it here, but I'll simply point out that the $1,200 (or so) that the iPhone X costs is more than a considerable number of Americans make in a month. Not buying such a phone doesn't make them a "cheap bastard," it means they can't justify spending that kind of money on a phone which will be out-of-date in a couple of years. (Apple promises to update the OS on their devices for 2 years, after that, you're pretty much on your own if someone discovers a giant security hole in the OS on your device. And yes, this is longer than what Google does, by 6 months.)
ahhh poor baby...... Would it have been better if I said you must have a corpsified knob all the way down your throat to think a sub-$200 phone is equal to a Galaxy Note or Apple iPhone? And I'm not calling Americans cheap bastards. I'm calling YOU and Amaris cheap bastards. Because only cheap bastards buy a sub-$200 phone and than try to tell the world that the phone is equal too or almost equal to the best phones on the market offered by Apple and Samsung.
Estimate of iPhone parts cost. Article dates from 2 years ago (when the phone was released) and doesn't take into account other costs involved in the phones such as R&D, customer support, store overhead, and the like.
awwww....... your feelings must still be hurt....... Looks like you're choking on that corpsified knob of an insult all the way down your throat. Fine. I'll change it to, "shoppers who buy low quality goods yet try to pass them off as high quality" Satisfied? Or are you going to continue to choke on the corpsified knob?
For what? How is it an insult? The insult can't be shoppers who buy low quality goods yet try to pass them off as high quality because that's way more mild than a lot of other stuff in Techforge that you let pass by with nary a comment. It can't be the corpsified knob part because we've already established that is okay say in Techforge.... Oh wait. John, your board buddy, said it. I guess that makes it okay than that you don't even acknowledge it. He can insult people in Techforge because you like him. He's such a lucky guy that he has a board buddy like you. Do you both sing the "My buddy" song over Skype with each other? (Please don't share any video if you do!) And they say Eliteforge is dead. HA!
Yup. For an insult, 'cause this ain't the Red Room. If you want to poke around here, you'll see that I've told folks to stop insulting Dayton, so don't go playing the victim card here, 'cause everybody knows I don't like him. Now, are you going to knock it off, or are we going to have to escalate things? Either take the insults to the Red Room or knock them off. I don't know how to make it any clearer to you.
There is no victim card here. Warnings mean nothing to me. But I do expect equal treatment applied to everyone. ShootER does it. Bailey does it. Most of the other mods do as well. You don't. When you let things slide because the people in question are your friend that just tells me that you're not worth listening too as a mod. You probably should quit and go back to being a regular board member. Let Captain X be Techforge mod.
Oh and as you're a mod I'd like to point out that your signature is trolling Federal Farmer in rooms that are not the Red Room. But again that must be okay because it's you doing it.
Oh I won't bother. Since Federal Farmer is not one of the cool kids it's okay with the owners. We all know the unwritten playground rules of Wordforge.
As I said, I've told people to stop insulting Dayton in this forum, and I pretty much loathe him. You'll note that it was shooER who did the "Thank You" response to my warning, so it would appear that if I'm out of line, he agrees with me.
A Moto G5S Plus can be had for about $240. It has a bigger screen and more storage plus a slightly faster processor.
