I don't know what to say quite yet other than there's been some great memes to come out of it so far https://x.com/LibertyCappy/status/1744859643392733532?s=20 https://x.com/AetiusRF/status/1744740406431289658?s=20 https://x.com/thisdiegolopez/status/1744962363453739210?s=20 The soiled mattress and the baby highchair probably warrant a closer look at this however
So my non-Jewish understanding is that this synagogue is considered the ‘home’ synagogue for a large sect of ultra-orthodox Jews. It was the synagogue of their main founder. The ultra-orthodox are crazy enough but there is apparently an even crazier offshoot that thinks that founder dude is the Messiah. And they are a bunch of assholes. They’ve been banned from the synagogue. So they went into the basement of a nearby abandoned apartment building, busted a hole in the wall, accessed the crawl space between the buildings and then made a secret entrance to the synagogue so they could sneak in and worship. The high chair and mattress were just a couple of items of abandoned shit in the basement (in the videos you can see lots of furniture all covered in dust, as the high chair was). There wasn’t tunneling tunneling, just busting walls to access crawl spaces between the buildings. That is my understanding after reading a couple articles.
That did not sound like the situation to me. Things can get strange when you have a segregated extremist cult, so I cannot say, but a couple of things about that do not make sense. A messiah? I agree the orthodox wouldn't have that, but they also would not be letting those people anywhere near the kids, and they would have been the ones sealing the hole with the support of the police. On top of that as far as I have read no one was charged with tresspassing. If the police found a whole bunch of people unwilling to leave private property after they were told not to worship there, they would have charged them with that especially if they engaged in opposing the police actions of filling in the holes and fought police. Do you have any articles or sources that even present that solution because read anything as simple as that. From what I understand the synagogue was aware oif the tunnels and it was the neighboring buildings making the complaint. Then again, reporting is hard because getting access to the orthodox is hard.
During my trip to NYC last year I attended a seminar at the Stephen Wise Free Synagogue. Interesting place. Stephen Wise was an early leader of the Reform sect and a leader of the U.S. Zionist movement. About as far from this nutzoid movement as you can get.
