I'm going to bring Mrs Albert on as an admin temporarily. She will assist Tamar with cleaning up/sorting/categorizing the immense list of smilies. She volunteered, and it seems to be something we need done, so there we go.
It is done. Mrs. A is now an admin, bringing our total to four. Plus me, of course. Tamar, make sure you and Mrs. A talk to each other about the smilies. I don't want you treading on each others' toes. It might degenerate into nekkid jello wrasslin' and we can't have that.
I PM'd tamar about this too, but thought i'd put it in here as well to see what ya'll think. is there any reason that the "meaning" column in the smilie list can't match the code for that smiley? I think a lot of people get frustrated because they see a smilie they like in someone else's post and then scroll over it to see what it is, but then it's not a match for the code. Then they go to use it and can't find it amongst all the others. Ex: When you scroll over , it says "Uncle Albert 2". Is there any reason it can't just show the code you'd need to use ( : ua : )? i'll go in and change them all - I just want to make sure there isn't a reason that some of them don't match up.
I noticed that too. I would say make them match. The smilies I use all the time I have the "::" code memorized. The ones I use irregularly I always have to look up.
As I told her, I have always had the title and code match...it's older smilies that have this irregularity. There should be no reason or problem with changing them.
ok - they're all matched up, except for the flags. i'm not gonna match those cause like tamar said, no one even uses them except for in sigs and possibly :arizona: (chuck uses that one) anyway, now you should be able to just scroll over and it'll show the actual code. does anyone know if there's a rhyme or reason for what smilies initially pop up to the right when you're making a post? Is it just random?
We can select a category from which those are pulled, but IIRC it just brings up the first fifteen in that particular list.
It's category one that features in the sidebar when posting. Also, it's a random assortment pulled from the category...but that could be because almost all the smilies were loaded as #1 in their category and not numbered chronologically. We just have too many to keep up with that.
so maybe if we made a most used/popular category and made it category one, it would set it up to pull randomly from that? that's awesome! i think we should do that. even if no one gets exactly what their top 20 or 30 smilies would be, overall it'd be common ones and not just random ones from "politics & debate" or whatever.
