Mueller is a registered Republican, has been for years, and got his first appointment from Ronald Reagan.

It doesn't matter what they are. They are investigators and did an exhaustive job within their remit.

Maybe Mueller is a Democratic sleeper agent who registered as a Republican back in the 1970s and spent decades as a registered Republican and an appointee of Republican presidents lying in wait for the moment when he would be needed.

It was a setup, designed to prove that many other meetings weren't, as he quickly admitted when this video came out, leaving us with names and dates. Whoever exposed him was working for Spiegel, though it is unclear whether they only contacted Spiegel and collected after the deed.
