So for the past few days I've been feeling a bit sick. This is really the best time to BE sick, I guess, because with all the major construction companies closed for the holidays, and our own nursery shut down till after Jan. 1st, there isn't a whole lot for me to do. In the meantime, I've been taking the opportunity to get through Babylon Five. My friend's been pestering me to try it out for months, and I'm forcing myself through what is at best an average first season. I've heard that it really picks up after the first one, but my question is: How soon? Cause I'm really hoping it starts off shooting from Episode One of the second season.
As I recall, you won't need to go more than one or two eps into Season Two before the real fun begins. Season One will also start to make a lot more sense to you.
I was hooked by the end of the first season. Really takes off in the second when Boxleitner comes aboard. Additionally, the CGI (which really bothered me) gets a lot better and the obvious cardboard sets become more realistic. Those first few episodes are really the only ones one can afford to miss, the rest is pretty much all crucial to the arc.
Good I am hooked a bit so far...I'm just waiting for it to get really good, is all. Only one more episode of the first season, hoo-ah!
I still like Sinclair better than Sheridan though. But then I liked the Bajoran politics episodes of DS9 better than the war too. Go figure.
That'll be explained Season 2 Episode 1 Which I saw this afternoon, I'm watchin it through myself and I got the 1st disc in the mail this morning.
Oh, I know, I just mean: Why did they write him off the show? Was there a scheduling conflict? Did they always plan to get rid of him after season 1?
It must be in the air, i've been watching it straight thru from the beginning this week too! I just started season 2 today. He means the actor, folks! As I recall, WB thought he was too dull for an action show, and insisted jms hire someone more manly. O'Hare agreed to split amicably, leaving it open for his inevitable return in a special episode later. jms had to rewrite a lot of shit in a hurry to coordinate the change into his 5-year plan for the story, but it worked out. Watching it again now, I really like Sinclair! He's got a great low-key delivery.
I envy you... discovering Babylon 5 for the first time. It truly was one of the best sci-fi shows ever made. Season One is slow but a lot of the events will become important later on in the series. I also think there are some really good stand-alone episodes from that season. The one that immediately comes to mind is "The Parliament of Dreams". The final scene is amazing. The Season Three cliffhanger, "Z'ha'dum" is really the climax of the entire series and will absolutely blow your mind. Grab on to the edge of your seat. And I defy anyone to watch the series finale and not have a lump in their throat. Brilliant show.
^ Knowing what I know now, I'd like to rewatch that episode where Sinclair's girlfriend goes into restricted space against G'Kar's advice.
I just watched that one last week. It still hits a philosophical home run. Plus, Julia Nickson has the most incredible eyes.
Ah, I really am the only person who misses Sinclair And apparently, from what I read, season four was rushed cause they thought B5 was gonna be cancelled? And then season five just kinda...lingered? Without Ivanova? Dammit, I shouldn't read back-box blurbs
I liked Sinclair. But he leaves because he does play a very important plot to the show and becomes very important to the Minbari. He does return in a later episode. Keep in mind, JMC planned the whole thing out and wrote the entire five seasons before any filming began.
Don't worry... I felt the same way initially. Sheridan will really grow on you come the third season. The first half of season five kinda sucked but the last half definitely recaptured the magic. And the series finale is awesome.
Here is something to read after you watch each episode. http://www.ntua.gr/lurk/lurker.html Some of JMS comments are hilarious. There is one I really like that has to do with War Without End.
