Banning nuisances

You people are giving him way too much credit here. It was a troll and a not very good one at that. He did it in the Red Room where stuff like that happens all the time. He would only be deserving a ban if he actually reposted something from TCR, which he did not.

Ignore is a lovely feature too many people seem to forget we have.

 

I disagree. The Ignore list is where I drop the morons who temporarily annoy me. Eventually I check to see if they've grown up a bit.
Simply putting someone on ignore who thinks trolling should include racial 'jokes' without any restraint, is an insult to everyone else on my ignore list.

There is no defense for this kind of crap, and the consensus seems to be that Zodiac has nothing else to offer - so why let him stay at all? Because it's the first step to super-moderation? Oh please, you don't believe that yourself, Marso. If anything like that ever happened here, WF would explode. Embracing racist posts because a sense of decency is too much like totalitarianism? Give me a break. Someone comes into your house, puts up KKK flags and starts handing out flyers about 'how best to hang negros' - because that's what he is doing, tainting the way WF looks to the outside world, and all we say is: well, he'll get tired of it anyway? If I don't look at it, it's not there? Bullshit. I don't want his crap on WF. period.

'Don't feed the trolls' is one way of dealing with things - the weak way. Why don't we use it in the real world? Put up a noose in a workshop and the sky falls down. But on WF everything is allowed. You'd say it's free speech, and I disagree. We wouldn't take away his right to say what he wants to say. But we'd decline to publish it.

Funny you should address me, because when I talked about banning people I don't like, you were the first one that came to my mind.

I don't want it here either. But if every thread where he did something like that had zero looks and zero replies, then I bet it would stop. Why do people insist on posting in the threads where he does this shit, even if its to call him a cunt? He's like a child who craves the attention, and you're fucking giving it to him. Even this thread itself is just egging him on. And if a thread is deemed that offensive, the offender can be warned and the thread not just locked, but removed completely.

The weakness is in everyone's inability to ignore trolls. You'd think the buttons they push would be worn out by now, but I guess not.

DISCLAIMER- don't mistake any of this as a defense of Zodiac or Speck or whatever. It's not. But I'm always wary when the lynch mob forms and starts hollaring for a banning. It's Elwood's board- let him decide what he wants to allow here and what he doesn't. It ain't a fucking democracy.

Funny we didn't get this speech from you while Tasvir was leaving steaming piles everywhere of his racial shit.

I'm not banning Zodiac for something Tasvir did for years without punishment. Until and unless there is a rules change in the Red Room and then he violates those rules, this is done. Your option is to put Zodiac on ignore.

 

As much as I loath Zodiac, Im with the administrators on this one.

I'd go with whichever decision Elwood would make, because on the one hand, I despise the very sight of the texted word "Zodiac" now, but on the other, I understand the need to maintain what WordForge stands for.

I dont do well with the immorality and indecency found in people like Zodiac, but Im still going to attempt to ignore him.

If he's here until he chokes, then the best we can do is ignore him completely. If he ends up being banned, we'll have confetti and party favors, and put the sour taste of Zodiac's presence behind us.

If I can ignore it, any one of you can.

Trust me, it's not easy for me to ignore such blatant disrespect. But it'll have to do until he either meanders off to destroy some other BBS, or he's banned.

 

I'm still a member of this board, and this is the Help Desk. Please stop calling me a nuisance, a "child who craves attention," or 'bitter-tasting.' These are subjective opinions, and the impropriety of expressing them here is only compounded by what some might interpret as being open scheming to have me banned, when it has been, AFAIK, clearly established that I will not be banned for a rule violation which does not exist, and which is something for Elwood to ultimately decide.

 

As the "newb " to this site as I am , my opinion is , well he's doin his job, look at the reduculous amount of precious bandwidth that has wasted of frivolous bullshit. Thats what trolls do, so whats the problem? He's gettin more clicks than any other topic since I have been here.

 

Posting threads like this is pouring fuel on the fire. I'd bet Zodiac aka messager is at TK giggling and tittering like a little school girl about how clever he is for owning WF. Besides he's not even their most notable member anyway so why give a troll what he wants by reacting in anger? Just point and laugh at them like the village idiots they are if you cant ignore them.

 

I'm not "giving" him anything, so if he wants to titter at TK and fake umbrage here, oh well. I just wanted to voice a suggestion that I thought would make the board a little more enjoyable.
