Oh, yeah, it does, only a lot faster than it used to. The patient loses weight because (A) the food passes through too fast to turn into fat and (B) there's less satisfaction in eating if you've got to offload it faster than you're ingesting it. It's extreme, but I know a couple of people for whom it was literally a matter of life or death.
