Rob Matter = PhilR = CheekyMonkey

Down to the server with her boss' name on the server.

    Banned.

Y'know, I've joked about this place being like the Hotel California before, but damn, girl.

You check out (or get banned), but you never leave.

Are you 100% certain on this, to the point of being sure that the ip system couldn't be wrong?

Is the email address in the Rob Matter account active? Because robmatter@hotmail.com does have a few Google hits for game walkthroughs and stuff which suggest this is either a real name, or an insanely elaborate hoax.

    http://www.the-frontier.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=29789

Rob Matter has got 1300 posts over at the board Apostle brought him from.

If what Robotech Master said is accurate that even his ISP gave fake hits then I think it is time to admit this is going too far and admit the mistake.

At this point I wouldn't even be surprised if the Phil ban turned out to be a mistake as well.

    edit: http://www.the-frontier.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24691

You can't see member information there like join date just browsing as a guest, but that is a thread created by Rob Matter in May 2006.

The IP blocking method is unreliable, time to abandon it.

Agree with Bailey and the gang. Elwood, this does not seem like the same person. How confident are you that Rob Matter is CheekyMonkey?

I know Phil isn't...Cheeky made posts at TK with information she wouldn't have had unless she was he or they were confidants.

And they both kept publically protesting they didn't know each other despite the IP hit.

The particular IP is a private server owned by Cheeky's boss only a handful of people in a specific lab have access to. It is extremely unlikely to be anyone else.

Although, I didn't know Rob Matters had a hit on that server IP.

That's the rub of it, the odds of Rob Matter being one of that small group of people are extremely remote, so the only other option is that a much larger group of people can be randomly assigned that ip than thought, meaning it is an untrustworthy method.

Also, no-one has addressed what Robotech Master said:

Is that true that Robotech Master has been hit by this in the past as well?

Honestly this entire situation is just a massive mess, consider how it looks to other members:

    1) Elwood, as owner, exercises his discretion to ban a user who has not broken any board rules because of a bad personal history and the stated fact that she knows stuff about Elwood so is too dangerous to have around. This is despite the fact that she never here or on TK given any true information (unless Elwood has been lying here all along about things like his occupation which I consider unlikely)

    2) Another member is banned for being involved with CM.

    3) Another member is later banned for being in roughly the same ip range as CM, despite having piles of evidence as to the legitimacy of his account.

    4) Oh, and number 3) happened around the same time that people seem to think Elwood was drunk posting.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards reversing this one. But I wanna hear from Elwood first.

Or it's her or a friend of hers.

Rob Matters from Philadelphia....Phil_R could be short for Philadelphia Rob.

Also, one of the people with access to that computer is named Robert S. Mittler and they have worked on research together.

It is highly suspicious. And the hits on Robotech Master and CM happened in Chat...when she was posting from her home computer, not the lab one.

If Rob Matters pinged the Lab IP it is very, very unlikely to be anyone but her or one of her buddies.

Or Robotech Master = Rob Matters. Chop off the 'obotech', and it's very nearly an anagram.

The IP that matches CM is not the same one that matches Robotech Master.

    CM Work matches Rob Matter

    CM Home matches Robotech Master

Um... I don't see any IP of phil_R or CheekyMonkey matching any of Rob Matter's beyond the first octet, and it's a Comcast IP on Rob's End.

I dunno what's going on then...we need Elwood to clear this up further.

I wasn't there when it happened. Maybe it was a chat hit?

Actually Robotech Master has moved since, so he wouldn't match now anyway.

Okay...I just went searching as well.

I don't see this match, Elwood. Where is it? I even asked Bear in chat about it in case it was in there and he told me that you said it was a board match. I see no hit on the Silvestri server like there clearly was with phil_r on multiple occasions.

Rob's comes up St. Joseph's University and CM/Phil was the medical labs of UPenn.

What is going on? Am I missing this evidence somewhere? Or was this a drunken mistake? If so, we need to clear it up and move on. If not, we need to see the evidence, because I am not sure what else to say here.

Indeed. I don't want to ban half of a state just because of an IP match . . .

You're still an admin though, so it makes sense for Lanzman to know why you did something before reversing it.

Perhaps it's some sort of loyalty test, or test of principles.

If it's a loyalty test, I've half a mind to fail it.
Principles, I've half a mind to pass it, right now.

    I wasn't gonna be. :sob:

I went to change my usergroup to a special group we setup a year ago, but I can't alter my configuration 'cause I'm in the undeletable group in the database. :(

    Lanz = Owner
    Tamar = XO

That kinda makes me...pointless. I was going to shift to "The Chief" usergroup and just do my thing like everyone else but still be here if I was needed in a pinch. :marathon:

We've got to let Lanzman make this decision.

It's his first big one, and he needs the opportunity to make that choice himself.

You're over thinking it. I assure you it's neither.

Please do so. Remove me from that group and add Lanzman (and Tamar, yourself, and Kyle if y'all aren't in it already). I'll then change my usergroup from Administrator to "The Chief" and we'll all be happy. :)

For those that didn't know, we have that unalterable and undeletable group as a last line of defense against account (and thus board) hijacks.

Deliberately creating a :shitstorm: for Lanz to handle isn't much better.

I don't believe Elwood would deliberately :shitstorm: on me like that, O2C.

Be that as it may . . . Rob Matter is unbanned. If this turns out to be wrong, if it really is CheekyMonkey, it can be fixed quick fast and in a hurry. :elwood:

Oh, and I just denied/deleted a user awaiting confirmation with the handle lyjg1125. The email it registered with bounced, and a google check revealed that this same username registered at a whole bunch of different places on the same day. Smelled like a spambot, so I killed it.

I wouldn't post explainations of every join like that...we get scads of spambots and it's a waste of time to post them all in here.
