I'm not sure anyone, ever holds to any opinion not supported by data.

It might be insufficient data, erroneous data, misinterpreted data, or otherwise untrustworthy data, in which case the opinion could be totally wrong. But an opinion not supported by any data would be totally random, such as: I am of the opinion that trees are really little green fishes, and we just see them as trees, but I don't have any reason for holding to that opinion. Even people who are totally out of touch with reality still base their opinions on data, but the data is totally untrustworthy. But it would still be possible to find out why they hold those opinions, which means data.

That’s not what I typically think of when I think of data.

That one is more properly an analytical truth. But the point stands!

Then the problem is with your understanding of the nature of data, not that you form opinions without data.

I mean...I knew intellectually that being trans wasn't a dirtybadwrong thing, but I needed a fuck ton of stories and testimonials from parents of trans children and doctors and people like Nova to truly understand the full scope of what I was talking about.

Yeah, having data about suicide rates among trans people because of cis prejudice and bigotry has helped a lot of people come around on this issue.

If you can't articulate why you feel a certain way beyond "I just think it's neat," you aren't gonna get far with Congress.

I learned about trans people from a documentary in the mid-late 90s. It’s a famous case and I can’t think of it right now, but it was a case in the 70s . So I suppose you could say it was data driven, but yes it also took me a bit longer and a bit more convincing that it wasn’t just a psychological issue.

Whelp, FF, you're still acting like a 15 year old in MC, so the beatings will continue.

The thing about federal fuck up is he wants everyone to respect him as if he is right and supports his points, but he does not want to do the work involved. He just points to other people and says knowing what they said makes him smart even though he does not have a clue about what they say.

    He is a fetus.

Every opinion is backed up by *some* data - whether you realize it or not. Something you saw, something you experienced, something someone said when you were 5 and didn't realize you were there or think you were listening ...

Sure, you can come on here, spout your opinion, try to explain to the best of your current limitations (time, input device, sobriety...) and not post links to those sources. I do it all the time. The difference is, I couldn't give a fuck if someone on this board thinks I'm an idiot - well ..., there's one. and a couple that I interact with on facebook. But, mostly ... this space, to me, is what used to be a hundred years ago, the water cooler at work. I'm in the middle of something intense, I need a break, so I walk over to the water cooler, get a sip of water, and talk shit with the others standing there. This is definitely not where I go to get validation for my intellect. That comes through raises and promotions at work.

However, if you want validation here, I suggest you start with trying to find links to back up those opinions.
