What? @oldfella1962 - a "hagiography" is the biography of a saint, or something that is so glowing that it amounts to that. The irony is that such portrayals have nothing to do with the real Martin Luther King, who would now be - and was - condemned as a radical socialist.
Good day for anyone who hasn't watched it yet to DL the Doctor Who ep "Rosa", in which MLK plays a small part but showcases Rosa Parks' bus protest. Lest we forget what shit these folk lived through.
Several of his fellow clergy condemned MLK's participation in the Birmingham protests as "outsider action" and "untimely". He rebutted that he had been asked by the affiliate church in Birmingham to lend his support, but beyond that no American can be an outsider within its borders, and it would be wrong for him to ignore injustice just because it isn't in his home state. He further explained that all other avenues of reasonable discourse had been exhausted and thus direct actions were merited. To those who said "wait" or "give it time", he rebutted that blacks had been waiting for years for civil rights and "justice delayed too often becomes justice denied". Finally, he urged that breaking unjust laws (he was arrested for parading without a permit - naturally Alabama used this law to deny permits to blacks) was not hypocrisy when demanding that states obey civil rights laws.
Fuck off. You know exactly what he meant. Pretty sure theMAGAs want to keep the white passing Mexicans out the country too.
Pretty such the MAGAs want to keep the white passing Mexicans put the country too. - Shirogayne Did a Mexican hack your wordforge account? ENGLISH! Do you speak it?
Yet you can't figure out how to tag people or use quotation boxes after twenty years online. Amazing.
I'm fine with legal immigrants from Mexico. It's the criminals I take issue with. They should be shot at the border in my opinion.
so in effect MLK is saying capitalism is racist! I started a thread positing that very thing and you all laughed. Well who's laughing now bitches? Or maybe it's because MLK was all smart & articulate and I am.....somewhat lacking in those departments. Seriously though no fucking doubt there were "captains of industry" that felt very threatened by MLK's criticism of America's hyper-capitalist system. But good points from Rick from an "outsider" (sort of) point of view. In America when you say MLK it's all simplified into racial aspects. But that makes sense, because that is something everyone can relate to, and everyone can see on a daily basis. However if MLK could have waved a magic wand and suddenly America was a democratic socialist society racism would not vanish along with the big money! Here is an example: "What? Everyone gets the same wage now? I work my ass off and some dumb lazy nagger gets the same wage I get? Fuck that! Kill those lousy naggers!" You get the idea? Democratic socialism would bring it's own set of problems. Now if Democratic socialism works in a country, good for them. I just don't see a way for it work here.
Okay, @RickDeckard, show us all the success story of a socialist run country that upholds individual freedoms and human rights for all its citizens.
MLK thought mankind started out as cannibals before figuring out we could eat rabbits? Okay, so maybe his basic science education was a bit more lacking than his noble spirit.
I must have had this discussion 1,000 times. It's pointless without defining terms. By what you mean by socialist, there are probably none.
I grew up in a Socialist country, the GDR. For me that is a good example of why and how socialism fails.
MLK actually thought that or is this one those "metaphor" things? MLK was a Christian Reverend and according to the bible mankind and all the animals started out as peaceful vegetarians (god providing everything growing for us to eat) until Adam & Eve dropped the ball. Regardless if we started out as cannibals we would go extinct almost immediately.
