As I may have mentioned, in the last couple years I've gotten into reading biographies of America's founding fathers. So far I've done Hamilton and Franklin, with Andrew Jackson now about finished (I know Jackson isn't a founding father, but the book was a gift and wattayagonnado?). On deck is a bio of John Adams by David McCullough. I've got George Washington stashed away somewhere too, tho I haven't seen it since moving in with my girlfriend who is now my wife. Anyway, any of you literary kids got any good tips as to more of these? I'm thinking Jefferson, Ethan Allen, Thomas Paine, Nathaniel Green, like that.
McCullough does a fine job with his subject in John Adams. It's one of the few bios that got me involved. I actually got a little misty-eyed from a couple of the episodes near the end. Not sure if there's a good bio of him out there, but you probably shouldn't miss James Madison; he's pretty important as the Founders go. I didn't read it, but Evan Thomas' John Paul Jones was pretty well-received. I've also heard good things about American Sphinx as a Jefferson bio. You're ahead of me on my reading list. I'm doing history now and I'm almost finished with the Greeks and ready to move onto the Romans. I figure I'll get to the American Revolution and the Constitution sometime in about 2011.
