some of these remakes don't fail specifically for lack of the original actor but because they try to get too cute with the material. The Kolchak revival was a perfect example. The charm of the original was lost in translation.
That one especially pissed me off. The original Kolchak was a crusty old cynic forced unwillingly to believe incredible things and who worked pretty much alone. The remake threw that out the window in favor of a Hip Young Cast doing Hip Young Cast things.
