Supposedly there is going to be a remake of this. First and foremost, WHY does this need to be remade? Second, Anna Friel? I mean, she's nice and all, but she ain't no Audrey Hepburn. Then again, I can't envision anyone filling Hepburns shoes (see first paragraph). Discuss.
I'll never understand the desire to remake a classic movie. It *never* works. Comparisons to the original inevitably put the new edition in an unfavorable light. Every critic says "Rent the original instead." Of course, since 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' was a novel first, perhaps the filmmakers will ignore the Audrey Hepburn/George Peppard film and craft a new, more faithful version using the original source material. That might be interesting, but, again, will invite comparisons with the earlier film.
I believe the novel is what they're going with. Friel says her Holly is more dark than Hepburn's was. I think the Sabrina remake worked because the emphasis wasn't on the female role, it was on Harrison Ford. They knew better. I guess I can't speak to Breakfast at Tiffany's because I haven't seen it, but the ladies they have chosen for both (Sabrina and Breakfast at Tiffany's) seem to fall flat. I mean they're nothing special in Hollywood in general, let alone at Hepburn's level. I just don't get it.
