Something that I've learned about Safari or have come across is that the download on it seems to be sort of wonkie. Meaning some of the things for some strange reason drag like you wouldn't believe when being downloaded via Safari.
Annoying quirk I've noticed on Safari: if you get an ad popup (or any other link) that launches a resized browser window, the next time you open another link that opens a new window, the new window will still be the same size as the ad. Also on a few news sites, I've noticed that a lot of spaces seem to be missing in the text... so you will get a sentencethat has no gap between words everynow and then like this one.
I've tried all 4 of those, plus Flock. Stickin' with Safari. Safari 3 is a whole 'nother animal on the Mac, where the toolbar's buttons can be dragged and dropped as you like 'em and there are more keyboard shortcuts than you could shake a ten inch dick at (I should know, I tried.)
Upgraded to the latest version of Opera. It only gets 46 / 100 on the Acid3 test for me. Also, like the last version, it fucks up on my google homepage... it continually reloads, the page flickers, and one of the columns jitters up and down. Not impressed.
Got Firefox 3 Beta 5. Better than build 4 but still not dazzled. I've been using Safari 3.1 since before the jump to a Mac, and although I'll play with builds of FF3 until they finalize it, I don't see anyone unseating Safari as my daily browser any time soon. And yes, I am the same guy who used to love to rip on Apple given any opportunity. What can I say, I stand behind what works. Let 'em fuck up and I'll be the first in with the snark.
There's nothing wrong with the Mac. In fact, there's a lot of great stuff about it. There is something wrong with the "mac community" and the advertising in my opinion though. Really, mac has a lot to offer, but the way they promote themselves, and the way mac users like to act is really off-putting for a lot of people (like myself). The "image" they have manufactured for a computer is pretty bizarre. They seem to be selling the idea of being in "the club" rather than a product (which, really has plenty of merits to sell on without all the "oh look how hip macs are" crap). It might be having a positive effect on sales but to me, it just makes mac users look like a "group" that I don't want to be associated with.
Yeah, and that to me is a pretty serious counterweight to all the good things I could tell my friends about my computer. "It's easy to learn, easy to use, does all the things I want, I don't get spyware crap on it and it never fucks up!" "Damn, that sounds like a good computer! What brand is it?" "Uh... hey look, it's Elvis! Yo, King!" *runs* Yeah.
I was just browsing Dell.com (looking at M1330 laptop), and Safari crashed out of the blue! Apple is trying to stop me from buying a Windows PC!
Yeah, I know. I'm just sayin', Safari might'a had a little factory recall action on ya. *points at the culprit*
I've been using Safari 3.1. Then again, I'm on a MacBook Pro, iMac, and iBook. I love Safari and I love every single one of my freakin' shortcuts. The only thing I use my mouse for is clicking links and selecting text. Otherwise, everything is done with my keyboard.
Safari 3.1.1 out today, compatibility and security fixes. Haven't noticed any new features. It does seem to load just a touch faster though, not that it was deficient in that department before.
Web Inspector is neat... but has a big ass flaw: separate window. Basically it seems very very very similar to Firebug... but instead of being contained in the bottom of the browser, it's in a separate window for some god forsaken reason.
