BAR has the Cohens in their old form: Cruel humor, snappy dialogue and a story with lots of surprising moments - one of them the rather quick and undignified death of a Hollywood megastar (really, this is only comparable to Travolta dying in PULP FICTION ) The story in short: two, ahem, mentally not so blessed gym employees get a hold of totally supersecret CIA material. And then they try to sell it -> hilarity ensues. As if the story and dialogue wasn't enough already, the Cohens have again assembled a stellar cast: John Malkovich, George Clooney, Frances McDormand, Brad Pitt and Tilda Swinton obviously have a lot of fun. If you like the lighter Cohen movies like LEBOWSKI: watch it! 9/10
Hmm, I didn't think it was their best effort. The movie definitely had it's moments, but I doubt I'll ever watch it again. It's kinda weird when then best part of a movie is John Malkovich saying "What the fuck?" in every scene.
Not the best of the Cohen Brothers' films, but I enjoyed it. I especially loved the moments with Brad Pitt (playing REALLY dumb...convincingly) trying to extort John Malkovitch. Definitely in way, way, way over his head...
The absolute best parts of this movie were the CIA guy and his boss trying to sort it all out at Langley.
It was far more a Barton Fink than a Hudsucker Proxy. I love the Cohen brothers but I think this could have been much better.
I don't know why, but I keep seeing the title of this as 'Burn after Reading' as in the south-eastern town not that far from Slough, rather than 'reading' as to what you do with books or papers... *Note, the town in question is pronounced 'redding'
Really funny, especially Pitt. Clooney tried his best to dampen the humour though, in his usual narcissistic way.
