I like it, just as a historical reference if nothing else. I'd like it MUCH better if I was watching Gingrich eviscerate Romney or Obama. Still, it's unlikely I'll get to watch it on TV - does C-Span put the good stuff on-line anywhere?
I get that cutting it down to two candidates allows them to get deeper than the superficial nonsense that has characterized most of the debates so far, but why Cain and Gingrich in particular?
Comedy. Also because none of the rest of the candidates have anything to gain from adding to their already extensive debate schedules, so they declined invitations. But mostly comedy.

Gingrich has been on this pony for a long time. He challenged all of them and, apparently, Cain is the only one who accepted.

I actually listend to the whole thing and, without (in this post) disrespecting Cain, Gingrich didn't just knock it out of the park but out of the STATE. If you want to here actual innovative thinking AND common sense AND the balls to employ both from a Republican, listen to it. Put this guy on a stage with Obama and the latter would look like a drooling vegetable.
