I don't know, maybe raise the 200 post result limit or add the ability to select threads older than a certain date, rather than just ones newer than a certain date? It's a pain in the ass when you're trying to find an older thread and the only search terms you can use are common enough in recent threads that they fill up the results.
Unfortunately, not with our current setup. Xenforo maxes out at 200 posts in a single search. There is a way to get more search options, but we would have to purchase their premium search feature, but before we do that, we might need to upgrade the board. So while it is possible, there would have to be some resources put forth to make it happen. Now, if it helps, the admins have been talking about upgrading the board for some time. With the way the search is, and how fast the board software has become outdated, this may be a good push to that happening.
Yeah, the bigger the board gets, the more search is like trying to find a suitcase bomb with a 50's Geiger counter, a paper map, a dull pencil, and a calculator with 3 missing buttons.
I would like to announce that I was wrong. I dug around in the search configuration, and it turns out I can raise the number of results. The new number of results is 500. I usually don't like to push because it puts a strain on the server, but I don't think people use the search enough to really cause an issue. If it turns out 500 causes too much trouble, I'll drop it down to 300. That said, I'd still like us to upgrade the board. We really need it.
Thanks, because it's a real pain in the ass when you're trying to find an old thread that was also on a topic that's currently in the news. Even doing a title search is useless because the terms are so generic that even if you remembered it exactly, the board will kick out a kajillion threads.
As long as we're fixing stupid shit that doesn't matter ..., can we also fix the links within a post when one poster quotes another? You know, the link that is supposed to take the user to the original post. Can we fix that?
especially considering some of the back and forth between certain people goes on for pages leaving the actual topic really far behind. Dayton level topic derailment is pretty bad with two users having the same discussions about the questions they never answer, or an argument over their toxic masculinity burying multiple threads daily.
I don't follow. Are you referring to the arrow? If you are, when I test it, it goes to the post it refers. I've tested it in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, and it seems to work.
For me it works very infrequently. I am using an update vivaldi browser which you recommended, on a windows 11 and 10 system where I can test it more if it will help. Nothing happens when I click on the arrows most of the time. The arrows would be useful in running back over the FF and UA derailments when a regular post comes up because it could be a couple of pages of off topic bull. I will; try and isolate the instances where it works and doesn't, and please let me know if there is any way I can test things that would give you the info you need in regards to this. I am familiar enough to use the vivaldi functions to look into the code if needed.
OK, so in a brief test it seems to not be working if the arrow is used for a quote on the same page, but it otherwise seems to work. I am trying to find an example where it doesn't work for changing a page because maybe it is not supposed to work on the same page?
No, it would still work. The tag is tied to the user ID and post number. When you change your name, the user ID stays the same.
forget my complaint as it works when I eliminate the vivaldi now that firefox works again. Problem solved.
Oh, and to @shootER and the rest of the crew thanks for fixing it so I can use firefox again. @Bailey and @Amaris . please pass the thanks onto whoever did that. Oh, and you all sucjk and you are secretly editing my posts to make me look stupid, because you think you can do it better than I can. I know you, and I am watchin.
On mobile, the arrows in quote tags only work if I open the link in a new tab. Just clicking (or I guess tapping) the arrow does nothing except change the arrow from blue to gold. Currently using Opera, but when I was using Chrome I had the same problem.
So that's either an issue with mobile browsers themselves (since most of them are Chrome based, except for Safari, of course), or it's something in the responsive design. I will take a gander at the board's responsive design setup and see if I can't do anything. If it's browser based, though, there's nothing I can do.
Okay, I dug around and what I could find was that there was a patch released to fix that issue, since Chrome does not properly render the post / quote function, and so essentially just ignores it. The problem is that the patch is for a later version of Xenforo, and it's not recommended you try to install a newer version patch on an older version of Xenforo. That said, the issue is with Chrome. It apparently has been an issue for about 5 years, give or take, and sometimes the issue is fixed depending upon which version of Chrome is released. Short answer: the problem is in the browser itself and the software, and it's an old problem.
As long as we're fixing stupid shit that doesn't matter ..., can we also fix the links within a post when one poster quotes another? You know, the link that is supposed to take the user to the original post. Can we fix that? If it's a platform issue and not a wordforge issue, then it's fine. I have an iphone and ipad. but if I'm at work or on my own home computer, it's IBM compatible and I browse the internet in Chrome on all platforms.
On another issue, could we fix the menu page so this topic doesn't show up as Can we maybe tweak the Spaceturkey. edit: Now it is much better as it asks to tweak the Tererun. Thanks for the fix, that was fast.
I can't make promises, because it's not my money, but the admins have been talking about upgrading the board software to something more modern and recent. I can only hope if we do so, that we can also eliminate the issue with the referral arrows, and any other issues that we can't patch because of the software's age.
Hmmm, if we are going to upgrade here are some suggestions. First, let us get something with AI to coordinate database crashes with my sleep time. That would be awesome. Also it would be really great if the AI would randomly go around and change certain users posts and then change them back again so you moderators wouldn't have to do that anymore. That is a lot of hard work you put in and you should really think about automating that function. Oh, and it would be really cool if you called it Xforge because I hear that is what all the social media people want.
