I've had the same thoughts on Gul as well. He said he would be on vacation until sept. 4th back in August and just never returned. I hope nothing's happened to him, either, especially with four kids under eight years old.

Just because he turned his rep off and quit posting just as he started getting neg repped to the stone age doesn't mean anything.

Even Samwise and Jan Jansen had the stones to stick around and fight back when they were getting negged. Fleeing at the first sign of red showing up in your UserCP, if that's what really is going on, is pretty lame.

Actually, you'd be surprised at how many people are run off over neg rep. Instead of being less of a douche and trying to earn their rep back, they flee to a different message board.

Because a couple of people decided to be assholes for no other reason than to be assholes.

Hmmm...no, I disagree. There are some who try to run others off with neg rep. Those are few in number. But the amount of people neg repping him, and the commitment they showed in doing it, made me think that maybe he did do something to deserve it.

And it's not like he's really all that innocent either. He neg repped Face for months, and did it to Necromancer too, just because he didn't like them.

He's played the neg rep game before and bragged about being the third most popular guy on this board, (before you joined). You are wasting your time pitying him.

Nonsense. I'm sure it was over something. Something small and petty, maybe, but it's a rep war. Small and petty is the nature of the beast.

Face does somtimes derserve a neg rep here and there. I 've never heard of Necromancer so I can't say about him.

But that's one of the things I don't much like about the rep system is that it can be used to harass people, and is often given for petty reasons.

But oh well, that's the way life goes.

The thing is, POTN is so far up there in rep from what I remember, one would have to neg him for months to even take him down by one pip.

After all the rep wars he's been involved in, you'd think he'd have the balls to fight back this time. It could possibly be a co-incidence. Kind of like the one where Eccentric had his WF account locked for work a day after he got his ass handed to him by a TK troll.

Rep can only be used to harass if it really matters to the person on the receiving end of it and surely someone who said something like this

wouldn't be bothered by a few negreps.

If you're gonna argue about rep being abused, you better also argue about the arbitrary reps handed out to some posters for showing boobies or being hot or posting retarded ass rep whoring threads and contributing zero else to the board that all have much higher rep counts than they truly deserve. I can recall one poster admitting her rep count was a big higher than she felt she deserved and without re-hashing history that is better off buried, I had to respect her for it.

Point is, rep warriors aren't the only ones guilty of abusing rep. It wasn't meant to attack posters any more than it was meant to be handed out like candy just because someone has the hots for a certain poster.
