Lebanon, before it went to shit, had a system where the parliament was made up of equal numbers of Jews, Muslims, and Christians, I believe. Maybe not equal numbers but members of all three religions had to be represented in the parliament.

Lebanon’s system is even more fucked up than just apportioning seats by communal group (which they do) and there is a reason they haven’t held a census since the 70s.

Not only do half the seats in the Majlis (parliament) go to Christians and half to Muslims but the President of Lebanon is always a Maronite Christian. The Prime Minister is always a Sunni. The Speaker of the House is always a Shia. They were assigned that way back in the day based on the demographics of the time.

Back in the day the Shia were the smallest communal group but now pretty much everyone agrees they would be the largest. So both the Christians and the Sunnis are in lock to not hold another official census and figure out the new appropriate allocation of seats and positions.

Which has led the Shia to create their own extra-governmental political/military organization Hezbollah.

Which has worked out well for everyone.

This idea that I am in the wrong for not outright hating Islam because some Islamic countries do wrong things is fucking gross. It is an attempt to shame people into anti-muslim hatred. I get asked the question of why I don't hate muslims and want to wipe them from the planet because they kill GLBT people. If I were to hold those beliefs that religious groups that kill and terrorize GLBT people in some foreign country need to be wiped off the planet my first priority would be the christians as they are my immediate threat. Muslims aroun me may not feel great about me being GLBT but they sure as fuck are not the big danger. Far more GLBT people are attacked daily by WASPs. I am not going to spend all my time watching out for the muslims while the christians are off making life miserable for me, and they seem to be kicking the muslims too.

Interestingly, I had little to no opinion of dumbass Krieg before this attempt to whatabout guilt me into hating the muslims because in countries with a heavy religious influence they might be being mean to jews. No offense, but while we are dealing with Trump and white wing christian domestic terrorism in the US I have some bigger concerns than policing Iran with our bombings. I get there is a bloodlust for remote killing of muslims by many in the US who justify it by their live for jewish people, but if it actually came down to helping jews locally people like them would love to get rid of the SPLC for getting in their way when they bump into a jew and some anti-semetic slurs come flying out of their mouths. Maybe DK is a jew who hates muslims, but there is a statistically higher possibility he is one of the christian raised americans who likes the jews when they can use them, and the rest of the time the jews are "those people" and fucking love to pretend there is something wrong with a jew.
