Wonder we'll see this on Hawaii Five O. They had one episode about a tsunami false alarm (deliberate one to hide a heist).

So North Korean media are about to report that the glorious leader has destroyed, in one decisive strike, all of Hawaii; and that while Western media quickly tried to cover with a ludicrous story about a false alarm, the push notes and these here photographs of the craters prove the fact. Which will prompt Trump to swear quick retaliation.

Where's InfoWars with the claims that Hawaii has been destroyed and the media and government is covering it up.

If you go to Hawaii now they fly you to Guam and pretend you're in Hawaii.

    "This isn't Hawaii"

"Sure it is. See the Volcano over there."

"What? That thing that looks like Disney built it? Look there's a roller coaster coming out of it!"

"Oh I'm sorry did I hear you say you want to go swimming with the sharks?"

"Nope. I'm going to go visit the Volcano."

"Good to hear. Remember no cameras allowed. National Security."

With nuclear weapons I'd assume it's always real. Just to be safe.

If that advice was followed World War Three would've started half a dozen times during the Cold War.

Yeah I'm talking about the average citizen on the street being told a nuclear missile is headed his way.

I'm not talking about the people sitting in their bunkers with the fingers on the button.

    Idiot.

You didn't specify. And its pretty stupid at this juncture for the average citizen in Hawaii to jump the gun and take cover just because a warning comes in.

What's amazing is there are no cars in the street in this scene but in a later scene there's cars everywhere.

There was so much wrong with that movie. Meyer should've stuck with Trek and Sherlock Holmes...

I live about 25 miles from 2 of Canada's largest nuclear plants and one of the largest hydro electric sites. Not too mention about a dozen smaller power generating sites and dog only knows how many other major parts of our country's infrastructure. Not sure exactly how far I am from ground zero of the great blackout of '03...
In any case, even if the centre of Toronto isn't targeted, we'd be within a couple of blast radii.

Fortunately, I have access to the roof of my building and plenty of beer to enjoy the light show... briefly.

Please don't take this the wrong way but aside from the Soviets during the Cold War who would bother targeting Canada?

And 25 miles, even 10 miles from ground zero of a nuclear detonation makes a world of difference.

In an all out war and I mean where all the missiles are flying it's a good bet Toronto is on the list.

But it may not be on a list until tomorrow.

A lot of people think everything get's launched at the same time but it's just as likely that the war will take a few days as everyone wants to see if they hit their targets and adjust to the next target or go after something else. Plus both sides may be wishing for a ceasefire negotiations to start. You can't have that if everyone launches every single missile right from the start.

So Space Turkey may have enough time to get the hell out of dodge.

In watching the various clips there was one of a dad forcing his kids down a manhole. That's actually really smart/quick thinking. I'm gonna pay attention to where my closest one is and what tools I'll need to open it.

After the initial exchange of a major nuclear war, how would any side know which targets were destroyed? You expect satellites or more accurately their ground stations to be intact and operational?

Intelligence might be harder to gather but it will still be done.

I'm betting that we had a couple missiles with satellites sitting on them just for this very thing.

You realize the overages from those plants go directly to the north eastern USA, right?

When the US had to have a counter offensive strategy to the USSR, you still had to go through Poland.

As I understand it, Canada's biggest concern in the event of a nuclear exchange is American defences taking out Russian missiles while they're over Canadian airspace. :async:

It really depends on the manhole cover but for most of them you can just use a manhole hook.

    https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_...keywords=manhole hook&rh=i:aps,k:manhole hook

Again what type you need depends on what type of covers are in your area.

But I wouldn't use a manhole for shelter anyway. It's probably not deep enough to protect against radiation (initial or fallout). It might not be big enough to fit everyone. Last but not least there is a chance that the cover could be welded to the hole by the heat of the blast meaning you're now stuck. Assuming you're alive of course.
