Why the hell would agents risk themselves for a social networking program that could be a major security breach and ruin their ability to do their job for life?

    That is retarded!

Exactly. I always thought that being a spy meant....I don't know.....being secret. And why would a spy want to be "social" with someone that is supposed to be an enemy? And why, for goodness sake, would they leak the news that they're all going to be on a site like Facebook?

Now, I know the CIA doesn't work and play well with the other 15 intelligence agencies the US fields, but to say they're the enemy...
And these aren't actually spies. They're analysts.

Ok I read it too fast. It is just for the US agencies, but.....

they seem to be talking about spies using it as well as analysts. I guess users wouldn't be able to figure out the who's who, but why take the chance? Sure, not just any user could become a member, but again why take that chance?

Because the kind of people they're talking about are seriously in need of lives.

Sure but because of what they do, they really can't have lives, no?

I don't really see the issue. Sure, Facebook is generally used for frivolous purposes, but that doesn't mean the underlying technology can't be harnessed for other uses. It's just another communication tool.

For example, e-mail can be used for sending inane forwards to all your relatives, but that doesn't mean people who work the the CIA and the NSA shouldn't use the same basic technology for communicating with each other. (Albeit with better security, hopefully.)
