Okay, so, hypothetically speaking, could Claire in Heroes get AIDS? Considering that she can't get drunk, because her body "heals" itself too quickly, we can consider it linked somewhat to the immune system. They had some thing a while back that seemed to insinuate adrenaline played a factor as well. So, as adrenaline affects the immune system, and can actually compromise it (I have an overactive immune system, so I get ill when stressed, because of the adrenaline etc), then could it be possible that Claire Bennett could contract AIDS, something that would destroy the immune system, that her powers could potentially make worse, as it would confuse it, and make her healing powers work against itself, and then die from the common cold?
Is her power based on her body's ability to regenerate? If so, I suppose she could become infected with virus but as soon as the virus damaged one of her cells it would get repaired or replaced. The virus could never get enough of a foothold to make her sick. But she could carry it... If she has a super-immune system, that wouldn't "heal" her body any more quickly than a regular persons (certainly not so much faster that intoxication was impossible); she would probably be incapable of being infected by HIV, because her immune system would zero in on it and wipe it out almost instantly. (Incidentally, I've never seen a single episode of Heroes )
"the rest" is not remotely as good as season one but it's also not remotely "a whole new level of awful" Hell, one only need look as far as Voyager to know better than that.
If she got pregnant, and junior didn't have healing powers, would her body heal it out? That'd be harsh!
Ooh good scenario! Would superhealing powers also mean that she could be pregnant and have the kid within minutes? I mean, damn, that would be a bad one-night stand. Or, if the kid had superhealing powers, would it suck the life out of claire, for herself? Actually, we know that her biological mother was still alive, so that's unlikely, but that could be a very unpleasant pregnancy.
^Claires biological momma being a pyro ought to have made her birth interesting. Bet granny never needed to shave down there again!
Well considering most of the characters on Heroes didn't recognize they had powers until they were in their late teens/early 20's, maybe in the Heroes world powers manifest themselves at a certain level of maturity. Then again, supposedly Claire survived a house fire when she was a baby through her powers, so who knows. I don't spend too much time thinking about congruency in the Heroes mythos because I think the whole show is buggered beyond redeemability.
For the second time, there's a reason I put this in techforge and not in media central. Stop pissing and moaning that you don't like the show people!! I'm not talking about the TV show or character aspects, I'm talking about a hypothetical of someone who had superhero healing powers!!! The TV aspect is only mentioned because I think having certain limitations to a hypothetical discussion makes it more interesting!!!!!!!!
It's just a TV show. People (not just you) should stop whining about it every chance they get. Hypothetical was interesting, but too vague to comment on. A reply from someone I know: The immune system isn't going to stop her getting drunk - "healing" the damage done by alcohol isn't fighting off a live pathogen like a virus or bacteria, it's just repairing chemical damage, like if she'd broken a bone. If you assume that her regeneration ability is limited to her typical immune system (the same as any other, but more powerful), then I suppose anything which tricked her body into thinking it was supposed to be there and then did damage on the sly would be a danger. But AIDS as far as I know just evades the body, rather than blending in.
Some of the Heroes had their ability from birth, then ... for some reason (not exclusive to this particular story) went dormant (possibly due to their first infusion of hormones around 18 months to 2 years) till their teens when more hormones kicked in.
Since this is Techforge, let's keep the comments confined to the thread topic. Tangential opinions about the show, storylines, actors, etc. should be taken to Media Central.
Seems likely that she could contract HIV. It wouldn't develop into AIDS though, since every time a cell dies, it's replaced.
