Not sure if this is a tech forge or MC thread, so feel free to move appropriatley.

My blue ray player (2year old) has started playing up, not tracking well. Whats the best way to clean it? Buy a head cleaning disc? or get the vacum cleaner right into it American Pie style? With cheap dvd players in the past ive went with the latter option, but I dont want to fuck it up.

The problem is a particular emergency as we got the 24 box set for Christmas. Had never caught the show on its TV run, we are now in the middle of season 2 and hooked already.

Never had to do this myself, but here's what a quick Google search turns up...

^ Bought one of those discs this afternoon. Crazy looking thing with mini brushes on it. I've ran the programme now, its working well.

Really enjoying season2 of 24 now.

    1) Fill the bathtub to about 8" of room temperature sudsy water.
(Dawn or another dish soap works well. Give it a couple good squirts. And be sure the water isn't too hot.)
    2) Immerse the BluRay player. (Be sure to unplug it to avoid damaging the electronics.)
    3) Scrub thoroughly with a plastic bristle brush. (Use an old toothbrush on the nooks and crannies.)
    4) Let soak for 5 minutes.
    5) Drain tub and rinse with a steady stream of cool water until all the suds are gone and the water is flowing clear.
    6) Let dry overnight. (You can speed this up by setting the oven at 170 degrees F and placing the BluRay player on the center rack for 2 hours.)*

    Hope this helps! :)
