To elaborate, neither a threat to his career (!) from the Republican party, a later expression of regret, his inspirational "story", nor his status as a "moderate" absolves Powell of responsibility for his actions. Imagine applying that kind of standard to serial killers or other mass murderers. The idea that he was a moderating force in the Bush I regime is a nonsense. He was routinely trotted out as the urbane, cosmopolitan acceptable face of that regime in order to give cover for its brutal actions. There is a lot of responsibility to go around for the Iraq War. Imagine that every X below is a person. An entire life, with a family, hopes, dreams, aspirations and a future. There are 100 X's. As the instigators of the aggression against Iraq, Powell and his colleagues were responsible for ending on the order of 10,000 times this number of lives. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Fuck him, and fuck the snivelling sycophantic media coverage.
I watched his UN presentation. I remember it being one of the few times I saw him as... not persuasive. The evidence for WMDs was scant and his presentation reflected that. The UN ultimately rejected the US' desire to go to war in Iraq and GWB went in anyway. That's how I remember it.
Not a shock. I haven't forgotten his response of "that sucks" to the USS John S. McCain crew when a collision killed the entire ET division simply because of the namesake. 'course, the Fitz had a collision two months earlier and he didn't take a break from fighting with James Comey to acknowledge that happening for two full days. Or maybe Trump had beef because William Fitzgerald was killed in 'Nam and he doesn't like losers who die in battle, I dunno.
"Tell you what, Don. You kill yourself right now, and I'll make sure the media is sucking the hell out of your dead cock tomorrow". *Does no such thing and Trump won't notice because death is the end*
That's the thing though, where's this "he must be brought down no matter the cost to truth, morals, laws, anything!! Anything, goddammit!! " attitude for all the other scumbags that ought to go? Cuz they LIKE those scumbags. Saddam wasn't playing ball anymore with our corporate swine.
When I say "I agreed that Hussein needed to be brought down." Not only did I mean "removed from power", but also I did not mean "no matter the cost"
trump's passing will not be any where remotely as respectful as Powell's or even Castro's. He was fine as long as he stayed in the entertainment industry. As soon as he made a bid to be a candidate for presidency, he became a laughingstock and with the presidency, has practically destroyed the very basis of our electoral system. Fuck him. The sooner he dies, the better for everyone.
Frankly, Trump is the one figure in public life I can think of who has no redeeming personal qualities of any kind.
Ron Johnson. Lindsey Graham. Ted Cruz. Madison Cawthorn. Marjorie Taylor Green. There's probably a few more GOP twats I could go through. Beyond them, Tucker Carlson.
I don't know enough about Ron Johnson to say much about him one way or another. Even though I wouldn't say the positive qualities of a Ted Cruz come close to outweighing his negative qualities, I probably think that one has to concede that Cruz has above-average intelligence and has something of a work ethic, and that there is an element of most of the people on this list creating their own success (with the possible exception of Tucker Carlson, who owes at least some of his success to being born rich.)
I did not care much about the news until @Federal Farmer had his meltdown and then I was happy he died. At least he died for something other than giving Tucker Carlson a reason to pretend the vaccine does not work.
The more I hear about his history the more I am sure the dude should be rotting in hell. Sure he might have done some good things, but he the head cheif in a lot of areas where some pretty sick as fuck things were done. Remember the US torturing people. He was making that happen without a problem. We know a lot of that was useless because of the next point. He loved his Iraq war that he produced out who his ass when the torture was not getting the results he liked. It was not like he stood up and said maybe we are going a bit far. Nope, he made some really big bullshit up to get it done. He defended military people blowing away unarmed non-combatants from helicopters, and was one of the people who encouraged ordering military helicopters to fire on civilians because he felt they were combatants. When it got exposed to us he tried to label the person who showed us those horrors as an evil person who hated america. We all remember chelsea Manning, right? Yup, according to the rhetoric she was a horrible person for leaking our milirary murdering people they knew were not a threat and civilians. He did not just encourage that sort of thing, he wanted to punish those people who exposed them. I am going down the road of ding dong go to fucking hell you scumbag, and lets us have a drink this dude is dead. Where is his grave, I got some piss for it. If you want to like or excuse the guy that is fine, but there are a lot of fucking dead, mangled, maimed, and tortured people that are that way because that is what he fought for and was complicit in. Go sit next to other cruel and evil warlords of history where you belong.
