I failed engineering and left it after trying it for 8 years. I've my own company now. I deal with computers and their services across my town. I'm pretty good with technical stuff. I try my best. Now I'm doing a three year degree course in IT sector. After two years I'll have my degree. And the perks are i don't have to pay attention to college. This is a brand new course and i, along with a couple of guys and a girl, are in one class. That's it. Although, i study now, they've to pass me in examinations. As this is the first batch. There are more perks but i think you all have gotten the gist. How times change. And believe me a degree is a bigger deal than how a guy looks and how much he earns for the family of his bride, in India. From an Xperia device
What do you mean by "failed engineering?" You couldn't make it through college, or you were working as an engineer and were not very good?
At least you are smart enough to go to college. I can barely count to "potato." That said I already have one career under my belt and I am halfway through my second. I sure don't envy you young people - my son is your age, and now that he's getting out of the army he will be taking some technical training/college to advance in the job market.

You've not understood the concept of having a degree in India. Having a degree is equivalent to being the best guy for the girl's parents. Also respect in community. Even if i bought this degree, it is like but HE HAS A FUCKING DEGREE. GIVE HIM RESPECT. GIVE HIM OUR DAUGHTER. GIVE HIM DOWRY. I still don't get it - you did not major in engineering, or is it that failed to perform at the actual job of engineering (post college with said degree in engineering?)
My point was to tell you guys that because of corruption, these kinds of perks we enjoy. Why they have to pass me and give me a degree is because it is a new course and they want students so the colleges can earn more money. The opposite of this happens in engineering colleges in India. You've to pay extra just to admit yourself in an engineering college. And it is not legal. Because engineering degree has more value than others. But in past 5 years, there are more engineers than we can count so gradually this whole engineering fad is going down. From an Xperia device
That's the spirit. True story: I was eating in an Indian restaurant up the street with an old housemate who was trying to complete his degree in physics. I told him that if he wanted to save money, he should get his degree in India. So I flagged down a waiter and asked him, and the waiter explained which Indian universities had the best physics departments, what their specialties were, etc. The discussion went on quite a while, and after the waiter left I said, "Did you ever notice that you can't get good particle-physics career advice like that in a Mexican restaurant?"
