I'm taking a critical thinking class and we have to put together a survey for our final.

I'm getting very little responce, so anyone who wants to do it would be appreciated.
(I think I choose odd topics, but it interests me so...)

My survey deals with assumptions and "short cuts" to understanding the character of a person.
Basically, are these shortcuts a fair and accurate way of knowing a person? Knowing their character?

    Questions:
    Age?
    M/F?
    Occupation?
    Voting political party?

Does a person's length of hair dictate what kind of job they should have?
    ...that they should be hired?
…say anything about the character of the person?
When someone looks like a member of the political party you identify with:
...Are you more inclined to believe what they say?
...If the person is not of your party,
...Are you less likely to hear them out?
Do you like people that are like you?
    ...As friends?
    ...To hang out with?
If you are not a "biker", do you stay away from them?
...If you are, do you feel that they understand you better?
Are you a member of any social groups?
Do you notice that there is any similarity in dress and behavior?
If someone wants entry into this group, and does not share this dress or behavior,
    ...Would they be admitted?
Are rebels looked on and a disruption?
Do you notice that some people get more attention than others?
    ...Is this based on looks?
    …first impressions?
    …position?
    …earned respect?
Have you ever gotten to know a person paast a negative first impression?
    ...Is it usually spot on?
...Are they different now, than you thought at first?

(sorry about the weird line breaks, it's a C'n'P and that's how it is)

Basically, are these shortcuts a fair and accurate way of knowing a person? Knowing their character?

Only in the broadest sense. You can't really "get to know" someone without spending time with them.

    Questions:
    Age? Almost 50
    M/F? M
    Occupation? Web Designer
    Voting political party? Independent

Does a person's length of hair dictate what kind of job they should have? No
...that they should be hired? No
…say anything about the character of the person? By itself, no.

When someone looks like a member of the political party you identify with:
...Are you more inclined to believe what they say? N/A
...If the person is not of your party,
...Are you less likely to hear them out? N/A
Do you like people that are like you? Usually
    ...As friends? Usually
    ...To hang out with? Usually

If you are not a "biker", do you stay away from them? No, but I don't seek them out, either.
...If you are, do you feel that they understand you better? N/A

Are you a member of any social groups? Not really
Do you notice that there is any similarity in dress and behavior? N/A

If someone wants entry into this group, and does not share this dress or behavior,
    ...Would they be admitted? N/A

Are rebels looked on as a disruption? Almost always

Do you notice that some people get more attention than others? Oh yeah
...Is this based on looks? Sometimes
    …first impressions? Sometimes
    …position? Sometimes
…earned respect? Respect takes time and seldom factors in to first impressions

Have you ever gotten to know a person past a negative first impression? Yep
...Is it usually spot on? Nope
...Are they different now, than you thought at first? Yep

Does a person's length of hair dictate what kind of job they should have? To a degree.
...that they should be hired? Depends on the job.
…say anything about the character of the person?
When someone looks like a member of the political party you identify with:
...Are you more inclined to believe what they say?
...If the person is not of your party,
...Are you less likely to hear them out?
Do you like people that are like you?
    ...As friends? Yes
    ...To hang out with? Yes
If you are not a "biker", do you stay away from them?
...If you are, do you feel that they understand you better?
Are you a member of any social groups? Yes
Do you notice that there is any similarity in dress and behavior? Yes
If someone wants entry into this group, and does not share this dress or behavior,
...Would they be admitted? Again, it depends
Are rebels looked on and a disruption?
Do you notice that some people get more attention than others? Yes
...Is this based on looks? Among other things
    …first impressions? Sure
    …position? Sure
    …earned respect? Sure
Have you ever gotten to know a person paast a negative first impression? Sure
...Is it usually spot on? Sure
...Are they different now, than you thought at first?Yes.

The survey was a bit...it was awkward. I answered it as best I could, but some of the questions just weren't answerable (or at least I didn't feel like taking the effort required to answer them).
