http://www.seattlepi.com/local/komo...-baby-girl-in-freezer-to-stop-her-4555237.php TACOMA, Wash. -- The man who allegedly put his 6-week-old daughter in the freezer to stop her from crying also tried to stop the baby's mother from calling 911, according to charges filed Tuesday. Roy resident Tyler Deutsch, 25, has been charged with assault of a child, criminal mistreatment and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence for the incident that happened over the weekend. According to the Pierce County Prosecutor's Office, Deutsch was tired and his baby was crying, so he put her in the freezer, wearing only a diaper, with some frozen cauliflower and a bag of ice and then fell asleep. Deutsch was awakened when the baby's mother arrived back at the couple's trailer and pulled his daughter out of the freezer, according to charges. The baby had blistered skin and a body temperature of 84 degrees after spending an hour in the freezer. According to the Prosecutor's Office, the baby's mother tried to call 911 but Deutsch took the phone away from her because he didn't want to get in trouble. The mother was able to leave the trailer and get a neighbor to call for help. "This is one of those crimes that defy understanding," Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said in a press release. "Our prayers are with the baby." The baby, who also had a broken arm and leg and a head injury, is expected to survive, though complications are possible. A thermometer inside the freezer registered a temperature of 10 degrees. Deutsch will be in court Tuesday afternoon.
Man, that has comic book origin story written all over it. "...and she grew up to become...The Refrigerator-nator!".
Technically speaking that could work at stopping her from crying (forever) but it's not a very good solution nor even a semi-intelligent one.
Something I've never understood . . . when kittens or puppies or chicks cry, it's adorable and you want to pay attention to them, but when human offspring cry it's annoying as hell. WTF Mother Nature?!?
If the cops immediately emptied every round in their weapons into his extremities and then let him bleed out they would be my hero.
that actually makes a lot of sense if you think it through... and haven't contributed to the overpopulation of the planet
The evolutionary purpose of an infant crying is to get the attention of adult members of the same species. So kittens don't need to provoke any particular reaction in humans.
If this were an action movie the star would open up the freezer, see the baby, and say "ice to meet you" in a deadpan manner.
When a human baby is crying that annoyance means people will go out of their way to try and stop it crying.
The cries from kittens, puppies and chicks aren't adorable, most folks (hopefully) don't like hearing an animal in distress Kittens, puppies and chicks can all be quite annoying as well, and people have gone out of their way to silence them.
YouTube page views disagree: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZs3EADi2pQ The bawls of a human baby make me want to run in the opposite direction as fast as possible. Not so with mews or yips or peeps.
Part of the reason human babies are annoying: Decible output. They are louder (and more shrill!) than puppies and kittens.
Hey I'm not judging. Ever see American Hoggers? How repellent is the sound of a wild boar in distress?
AWESOME! I bet sleep deprivation/exhaustion would take him out before hypothermia. I know I can't sleep when I'm cold. Today - on a very special Myth Busters...........
If this were a CSI Miami episode, David Caruso would pull out his sunglasses and unfold them, say "I guess he thought she needed to..." (puts glasses on) "...Chill out."
I'll be honest with you, I'm in favor of capitol punishment in theory. I just can't cotton the idea of putting an innocent person to death, so I choose to be anti-capitol punishment. But, it's really hard for me in cases like this where the perpetrator is quite clearly guilty. Especially, and doubly so, when it's one of my hot button issues. Namely someone that would harm a small child or the defenseless and infirm elderly.
