well, at least up to level 10. But it's a great chance to check it out. I've been wanting to do that for a while, but didn't want to pay. You can create a character and play the game until you reach level 10. I don't know how fast that is, of course. But even after that, you can continue playing for free, but your character will no longer level up or gain xp - for that you'd need to buy an activation code.

I think it's a wonderful idea to get people to try the game, and more importantly, to populate their gameworld, which I guess is their main reason for doing this.

I'm going to try this :D Only a 1.3GB download after all

Game demos are only so much junk mail.

Plus I hear this game is crap, regardless of price.

Demos are only crap if you can either afford to just buy anything, or don't pay for anything to begin with. Otherwise, it's great to see what you buy before you do so.

As for the quality of the game, I prefer to check it out myself - I've seen trailers which looked great. The gameplay might suck, of course. But then, all MMORPG's are games in development, they change all the time, there is not a single MMORPG that was finished on release.
-edit- and finally: gamers not used to MMORPGs tend to judge them like they judge 1st person shooters, i.e. mostly based on graphics and 1st person shooter-qualities, whereas they're more based on content, and less on graphics.

I judge FPSes based on storyline and/or moddability.

ouch... I actually downloaded it and I think the bandwidth and graphics demands are so far out there that my OLD computer can't cope very well. I wasn't too impressed, either.
