    Also isn't deleting accounts a bad thing in general, why not just lock?

    No, accounts is okay (technical, not policy-wise), although it messes up rep display; it's posts that are bad to delete.

    That said, deleting one's account is not a great way to hide anything, because your username still shows up by the posts you made.

    Yeah, but I'm not going to delete all the posts just because somebody leaves. Imagine what the threads would look like? Blech.
