Pinellas Park police: Man accidentally shoots himself during argument

PINELLAS PARK — A man arguing with his wife and threatening to shoot a family dog early Tuesday accidentally shot himself in the face and died, Pinellas Park police said.

Paramedics tried to treat Dennis Eugene Emery, 57, but he was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities said Emery was arguing with his wife, Francisca, in their home at 5271 87th Ave. N about 6 a.m. Emery was upset because he could not find his lighter, police said.

He picked up a revolver and threatened to shoot the dog, pulling back the hammer on the gun to emphasize his threat, police said. Later, as he tried to release the hammer, the gun fired while Emery had it pointed at his face.

Emery has had 34 contacts with Pinellas Park police since 2012, the department said. He recently was arrested three times in six days: Oct. 12 for domestic battery; Oct. 15 on charges of aggravated assault and resisting arrest; and Oct. 17 on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash. Those cases were pending at the time of his death.

State records show Emery was convicted of drunken driving in 1977; carrying a concealed weapon in 1978; and disorderly conduct and public intoxication in 1983. He was charged with domestic violence in 2013, but the case was dropped, according to records.

On a serious note, consider that this complete sociopathic waste of humanity was allowed by the state of Florida to have a gun. When you support laws that put guns in the hands of people like this you support irresponsible gun ownership.

If you talk with hand gestures, don't get in an argument while holding a gun.

These arte the sort of people that guntards want to own guns. The only actual problem I have with it is they might walk into public. However, if they are going to shoot themselves in their homes I think florida might be onto something. About the only thing I find wrong is he did not shoot the worthless punchingbag wife, and find anyone with his genes and kill them too. Oh, and he probably should have shot his worthless barfly friends also. He could have had a backyard party, invited everyone he knew, and you would see the biggest gift would be from me and the card attached would say thank you for cleaning the pool.

It is a good question, but I would imagine the answer would make your brain hurt. Not that i know the answer, but that was a special person right there, and it is just best not to question why special people do what they do.

We had a murder about 10 years ago that was ruled an accidental homicide because the teenage idiots at a party were drunk and played Russian roulette by aiming a semi-automatic at each other. Needless to say, the first contestant lost the game. The cops couldn't keep from laughing when they explained the incident to reporters at the scene. Roulette - requires a wheel - that spins. The accidental homicide part, as I recall, was that they didn't intend for anyone to actually pull the trigger, but a dumbass went ahead and did it anyway.
