Dave Chappelle "Sticks and Stones"

Anyone check this out on Netflix?

I caught it last night and thought it was pretty funny. Not a home run but a solid triple. Plenty of laugh out loud moments.

It's getting some press because Chappelle does a lot of material that goes against woke cancel culture. And he does a number of routines--particularly a bit on Michael Jackson--that are decidedly non-PC.

I read an article about the show. Basically the point was he's trying too hard to offend and losing his ability to shock the audience. He's becoming like Lenny Bruce towards the end. But that's just one opinion, and I'll have to watch it myself over this long weekend.

It was great. We watched it last night. He pretty much set out to say something offensive about everyone and he did but did it in a way which seemed funny without singling out anyone for extra attention.

He fucking nailed leftforge on the Jesse Smolett case.

Yeah, he lost me with the "molestation victims should be happy and proud that their abuser was famous" bit. He's forcing the edginess.

You seem to have totally missed his point. He said “you could have gotten ass fucked by a broke nigger” but because he was rich now you got millions. Silver lining sort of argument. Oh, and the presentation was indeed funny. Chapelle has mastered the art of delivery when it comes to jokes.

I saw it the other day and thought it was hilarious. It’s one those times when a comedian says what you’ve been thinking, especially about the alphabet people and pc culture. South Parks does that to, but I think Chappelle hit it on the head. As for the Michael Jackson and R Kelly stuff, they’re easy targets and they did it to themselves. The hardcore MJ fans will never believe there was any wrong doing. The show felt like it needed an encore and sure enough if you stick around, there’s an epilogue.

I forgot about the Jusse Smolett bit, yeah he tore leftforge up. Just look which poster is neg repping this right now, the very same one who believed the story.

I saw a good video about this here. I swear this chick is my spirit animal because I never liked Chappelle, ever. I found that everyone hyped him up and I was glad when he fucked off for his drug bender and the show was axed.

But like the commenter pointed out, who the fuck is cancelling him? He said shit about trans people in his last special a year ago and he's still here. Black folks largely don't even believe MJ molested anyone at all, so he ain't gonna get cancelled by us. Were also still pretty willing to throw queer people under the bus and hide behind race to be assholes.

So how is he affected by cancel culture?

It's telling that cuckservatives like Dinner and Teenage Incel up there are shitting their pants in laughter.

I did not find him any more edgy than normal. It has always been his thing. Maybe if the only thing you know of him is the chapelle show where he had to tone things down some you might be right, but he has been a bit angry at people complaining for a while. This was pretty funny. I found a little of his claims about the alphabet group to be wrong, but it might be correct from his contact or with the more hollywood groups.

His commenting on current events was really limited. I think this may be why rightforge enjoyed this more than normal. It seemed he strayed away from his normal white/black racial humor and had a lot more about the attacks on edgy comedians.

If rightforge is hoping for a meltdown, do look in the mirror to see you are still melting. No one is walking away from dave for this act.

I think Dave may have realized he needs the Incel fanbase and anti-PC fanbase. I think he also realizes that they are a bit white. There was a huge tone down of racial humor, and a complete avoidance of right wing criticism. I think it comes from a realization that at some point he is going to be playing to a different crowd. He commented on hart who had a very old joke ruin his dreams. No one bitched about that one joke Hart had years ago, and many people laughed at it. Then they all just turned on him because he was in the mainstream. Kathy griffin got betrayed by her audience for a fake picture of trump. CK went purely for the incel crowd when his audience got offended by the same routine he had done forever. Dave has already lost his mainstream show.

I think the reason why the cuckservatives think he is more edgy is because he was less edgy when it came to insulting them so they were melting down less and could hear him insult the people they want to hear insulted.

What's bizarre about this is back when he left his show one of the reasons he gave for ending it was because he felt like he'd attracted the wrong type of people who were laughing AT black culture, not WITH it.

And now those types seem to be nearly all of his audience. :|

I would not totally say that. I think there is a huge chunk that laugh at the racially charged humor at blacks and others because they are racist and they are going to cherry pick what they like. I see a lot more people who enjoy the mutual observational humor even about their own groups. The bit he did on music and how white people responded to the guitar, while blacks responded to the drums, and hispanics responded to whatever he said they did eventually united all of them in dance. It doesn't fully hold water as scientific, but it does have a cultural base to a certain extent. He is at his best when he does stuff like that. It is more of an appreciation of our differences and the reality that the mix is awesome.

Comedians are certainly under attack, and you cannot control your audience. I think a lot of people looked to dave as the fighter for off color humor, but then he was left very alone when a lot of people would not back him when he needed it. I also think some of his fans took his more simplistic memes way too far. His humor is quite deep, but he also has some great one liners. I think the people who latch onto them are your loud and obnoxious fans. They are going to drown out your decent fans. I am sure he probably found himself leading some rather shitty people, and I am sure that was not what he wanted. He does not seem to be a very confrontational guy, which is weird considering his humor can be offensive at times. He does try to take the edge off the purely offensive bullshit, and some fans are going to put that edge right back on when using his words. It is like around here when rightforge seems to think he is out to make leftforge cry. I have no doubt chapelle would take offense to some of the people here in this thread.

There are certain times to be PC. Dave chapelle humor does not belong forced on people in the workplace. It can be offensive in the general public. Certain politically incorrect things should come with consequences. Being a racist prejudiced ass, AKA @Dinner , has no place in decent society. Some observational humor that is good natured and inclusive while laughing at some of our differences can be a way to show solidarity and acceptance when done properly.

I honestly can’t think of a single joke he did about black culture in his special. Unless you consider him saying black folks where silent during the Jesse Smolett case because they knew he was lying.

the whole "I'm gonna be edgy and defy "cancel culture" shtick would be a lot more relevant if they guy presuming to "defy" opposition wasn't basically the most successful stand-up dude of his generation.

Got news for these self-appointed "defiant" guys - Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, et al beat you to the punch by about 50 years.

And don't think that which is derided as "cancel culture" now wasn't a thing then. 'Cause it was.

By the way, the worst thing about Chapelle's trans-bashing bit isn't that it's bigoted, it's that the "comedy genius" is recycling the same tired tropes shade-tree comics have been trotting out in every social media thread even slightly related to the subject since before there was a social media.
Seriously the "what if i identified as..." bit is the LEAST edgy bit of humor that exists in the english language. He might as well just go with "Take my wife, please!"

I did find this special's humor to be a bit lacking. Normally I find dave to be a bit more insightful. The idea that trans people are viewed negatively by anything but a small minority of the homosexual community is bullshit. You go into any gay club as a transexual or a drag queen and you are welcome and celebrated. I think crossdressing for the gay community is an important part of self expression even though they are not trans. You have your butch lesbians, and you have your effeminate gay males. The whole gender norm thing becomes a cage for them, and starts heading down the path of trapping them into a heterosexual relationship because that is heteronormative. So crossdressing is open rebellion against those norms at it's core. In that way trans people are very much a part of the strugle, and also with the fact it is something you are that others should not be defining for you because it is harmless and actually good for society to have these differences.

I was laughing at the presented setup of the jokes, but his conclusions are out of touch. Which is actually odd for dave considering he normally has some decent insight.

My problem with the idea that only some blacks are "niggas" is that it encourages the idea that certain people deserve dehumanization by virtue of being black but not others....that if we try hard enough to be Good Minorities, we'll be accepted into white culture. That didn't happen.

That, and two wrongs don't make a right. We don't get to tell queer/LGTBQ people what they can and can't be offended by if we're not gay ourselves. We don't have a monopoly on suffering. Life isn't great for us as cops still get away with murder, but legally we have protections against discrimination paper than don't exist for queer people.

Also-also, I'm just not down with the idea of "fuck you, I got mine" that too many black folks have when you mention that we can bring up our own oppression without making the same racist arguments against or tearing down other groups.
